Is this one of the watchtowers? So something that missing would be a beacon that they could set alight to communicate with the other 3 castles?????????

Hint-2: All wrong - although one of the answers is very close...

P.S. I'm now going to say goodbye to Alan from Grumpy Grouse, so more tomorrow. Good luck...

P.P.S. OK, because it's Friday night, another hint: There used to be one on the third level of St Hilarion also...

8 pm - end of Quiz-09! And this is the one and only right answer to the question in message 1: "a drawbridge". Not "drawbridges", Bill..! Here's a picture of the front of this medieval construction by an unknown French architect: http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/2_S3500065.jpg

This is from my lecture (Wednesday February 24, 2.30 pm in Denizhan Bar, Alsancak): (...) To the south this corridor comes out into the basecourt, the exit being protected by a sort of barbican or rectangular tower which clings to the steep rock and is commanded from above by the upper defences. Here it is evident a more important method of defence was adopted than at the barbican. A kind of two-storied tower was built against the side of a precipice of rock. The gateway under this tower was in the wall at right angles with the cliff. From this gateway "a drawbridge" descended on to a platform across a chasm in the ledge of rocks on which the tower-like structure is built. [more]

[continued]

This tower and entrance are now completely shattered by falls of rock from the cliffs above; the arrangement for working the drawbridge could be traced in the masonry within the gate but has now disappeared. This gate-tower is a vaulted structure.

I think everybody will agree when I give Bill (No1Doyen) 0,5 point? Which makes the total score: Winners: Hatty: 2x, Clarissa2: 1x, No1Doyen: 1,5x (Darrener2: 2/3 pt, thomarge: 1/3 pt).

Anyone interested in another Quiz, just a little more difficult..?

Hans. In your firstbpost you gave a hint that there were "two of them". I think I answered correctly saying "drawbridges". Please check the rules and give me an extra half a point. ))

Bill, once more we disagree... This was the Quiz question: "What is missing at the front of this building (pictured is the back)?" And at "this" building is missing "a" drawbridge - not drawbridges.

And this was the first hint: "There were two of them in St Hilarion...". Please note: in St Hilarion.

So, my final decision will not be altered: 0,5 point for Bill...
