Are there any rules and regulations here in TRNC that cover "noise nuisance" ? When I mean noise I mean electric saws being used at 0015hours, hotels (situated in residential areas) their noisy guests at 2am etc. shouting and shrieking etc. Whilst necessary maintenance has to be carried out during the day there appears to be - where I live - a 24 hours free for all.

Have you spoken to your local belediye or Muhtar? There is also the Environment department which can look into noise levels. If its dogs that are a nuisance then there is the District Officer who will take action, especially if the dogs have not been registered.

Would be helpful to know where you are.

Discos can only have their music on until 11.45pm or midnight I believe, but that of course doesn;t stop people shouting and carrying on after that!

Thanks for the information I was uncertain what the authorities consider nuisance here. I live in Girne off the road opposite Ezic chicken on the main girne to lapta road however we seem bombarded by works going on allhours from a local restaurant as well as a nearby hotel. Whilst we are not against people enjoying themselves the noise of an electrical appliance - at any time of day including sunday, the barking of dogs and inconsiderate shouting and slamming car doors at 2am has escalated since last summer. I do welcome your responses its a good little forum this you can find out all sorts of things.

umm it has got busy around there hasn't it - the other restaurant being Passport?

I would consider talking to other residents as well - Cypriots do generally put up with a lot more noise than we find acceptable though - to see if there is a general concencious. If not then maybe the belediye is the only place to go - remember before Santa Fe changed the place to Farrinelis or something, there used to be a place there that played music but people complained and it got stopped.

It might work, and there is no harm in trying.

Lots of traffic doesn't help the noise pollution....maybe once the bypass opens taking some of the heavier traffic (lorries etc) will perhaps reduce the impact for residents along that stretch of road. Lets hope so!!

maybe so, although the young'uns may find it still necessary to zoom up and down the high street at all hours as they feel the need to 'impress' everyone with their supped up motors - sounds like the UK eh!
