| Sad to see the cloggies on the verge of pulling their lads out of Afganistan, could this be the start of the Euro commitment to NATO starting to crumble, just as the Taliban are being put on the back foot. Seems the Union has not only made a pickle of monitary matters, but the idea of a EU Army can only be another diaster waiting to happen. Over to you Heinz. D.N |

| Not back pedalling, it was agreed in the Dutch parliament last year that they would pull their troops out of Afghanistan this year. The extension of that to 2011 is what has not been agreed on and caused a split in the coalition government. |

| Again, I'm not called Heinz, ***** Normus. Hans it is. Two years ago the Netherlands government informed NATO that the Netherlands troops would be out of Afghanistan at the end of 2010. Yesterday one of the coalition partners (PvdA) told the other coalition partners (CDA and Christen Unie) that their ministers would stick to their words. End of the fourth "government Balkenende". After 22 dead young (wo)men and 180 badly wounded - yep, why did the Netherlanders join the adventure in Afghanistan at all? Well, just for the record, it was better than the adventure in Iraq, isn't it? Where the US and UK invaded a country - based on lies of the US President and the UK Prime Minister. Over to you DN. | Rowlo, your posts about war dead are pathetic. I bet you were not even born in 1944, so what are you talking about? "We"? Who is "we"? You? Which war will you pick next? The first or second Boer War (when the British invented the concentration camps, happily imitated by the Nazi's)? Don't go on this way, because I can play my part. |

| Sorry Hands, and I can only give praise for the lads out there, shame about a goverment that seems are unable to make a commitment. One cannot be held personally responsable for decissions made by goverments I also disagree with the invasion of Iraq, but in your opinion could it be the start of EU support for Afganistan waivering. | So the Netherlands Government are unwilling to sacrifice any more of their young people in an aimless and unwinable war? Some Dutch politicians have decent principles rather than toadying up to the 'special' USA & UK. I served with the Dutch in Lebanon, they were fearless and formidable soldiers. All the more reason why their government and people should not waste them on this nonsense. A week after the coalition forces pull back to their bases the Taliban will just re-occupy the ground and start all over again. Some people never learn. DD |

| RE msg 8, rowlo: I prefer to avoid discussions on the level you've chosen - you and I are obviously in different leagues of behaviour and education. |

| Speaking as an ex solider, and I have been there and done it, soliders fight wars and go where politicians send them, goverments all over the world make decisions soliders fight and die, this is the way it always has been and always will be, like it or not! agree or disagree, but do not drag soliders into the politics that goverments fight over. This is only my personal opinion RD |
