Unfortunately it is not defined but I know some have gotten away with circa £5000 or the equivalent in TL but my guess is that if you have for one year the basic minimum TC wage (I am not sure but it is around 1,200 per month i.e. circa 15,000Tl per year) then you should be OK. But please do not take that as gospel but it is a good starting point.

Also think it depends on whether you rent or have bought property. Obviously if you rent then your expenses are likely to be higher - rent payment. That will take a fair chunk out of £5 to £6k per annum.

Up until this year one had to show proof of income from U.K. This year they didn't want to know, just what we had here. Not a lot, but we do own a house and have done for several years. Actually the money we have in the bank would not last a year of living. I mean £5000 as mentioned above would hardly cover petrol money and house overheads.

But maybe they think that if you run out of funds you will bring in more or run away - especially if you are renting.

Just go for it. It sounds as if around £5000 is O.K.

Good luck

It is irrelevant how much, they look at pattern of in and out of account as well. If you suddenly put £5k in the account for example before applying I can assure from friends experience you will be rejected.

If you are younger than retirment age and can show no consistent pattern of income you will also stand the chance of rejection.

Does not matter how many times people ask for definitive answers you always get a shrug of shoulders.

cyprusishome, you're right there. It all depends on the day, our 1st residency papers we made an error and presented the police with a new bank account which had in 20 Lira in it, and we're younger than retirement age, this wasn't questioned.
