Can't remember using nuclear weapons in the past 50 years. Have I missed something? Does the UK really need an independent nuclear deterrent - and more to the point - can we afford it?

I seem to remember that CND and their ilk did achieve an awful lot. They got rid of those dreadful American warmongers from Greenham Common for starters.

Then look to 1989/90 and the fall of the Berlin Wall, the hanging of Caesescu etc all brought about by people who wanted to see a better world.

People have the right to demonstrate in most countries, including Turkey but usually we do not hear about it because it is not of interest to the English speaking press unless the demo. turns into a riot.

In UK you can go back through history - The Peasants Revolt, Peterloo Massacre, Tolpuddle Martyrs, The Luddittes, Miners and Steel Strikes etc whose right is it to dictate if any where for good of bad reasons.

LC. As you say, a very small political party. But the GC's will build them up to be rivals to the UBP, the same way as they quote Africa as if it were a major TRNC newspaper – sad, but as Ismet says it is democracy.
