I arrive from UK by car on November 12th 2009 at Kyrenia from Tasucu and I plan to drive my Saab back to UK first week in April this year. Is it true that I cannot get a ferry from the South to Italy or Greece or wherever as I arrived in the North from Turkey?

I may yet stay the summer if I can rent somewhere here and get a car visa extension but will probably drive back and have Easter in Greece. I don't mind going back through Turkey even though the Tasucu ferry is crap. Just looking at options.

Re : Msgs 1&3

If your car has UK registration, you as an EU citizen have the right to travel back via any route you like.

Hi Corbo, think you can do it but at the customs you will have great difficulty in sorting out paperwork, both sides are interested in extracting your cash. When that has been sorted you will be paying for a ferry ride via Greece at a vast cost (1000 Euro's cost a couple of years ago) that will only take a driver and no other passengers. Unfortunately the sh1t bucket is by far the cheaper and you can still travel through Greece on the way back if you can find the border crossings that is.

Customs at Lefkosa will let you have your car here for the length of your UK car tax disk.

Hope that helps you decide.

Thanks for that. Yes the s. bucket looks the most logical way back. Getting another 6 monhs tax brought out by the end of March but I think I'll head back for now.

Sad really that these large costs and paperwork make you have to change plans. One day someone will realise that if you bring costs down and not have a paper minefield then people might stay longer, spend more and keep the economy moving. Unfortunately this will not happen in my lifetime.

Good luck!

As far as south side is concerned you have arrived through an illegal entry point and therefore not officially on Cyprus. It is more than likely that you will get at best a lot of agro, at worst they will tell you to go out the way you came in.

Yes..odd thing red tape. Should be no problem going from Greece to Italy on return ferry though I guess, or even Turkey to Lesbos forexample.
