Hi folks, I have a Royal Navy pension I want to get paid to my bank account over here, but the paymaster is struggling with it. I have seen from previous posts that it must be possible but I keep hitting a brick wall. My bank is Credit West and they have been as helpful as they can be but they don't have a solution, perhaps someone out there knows how it's done?

Why don't you have it paid into the Nationwide in England and then draw it out over here ?Most cash points handle visa cards and with Nationwide you don't pay a penny .

Thanks arrry, I don't have a Nationwide account and being over here can't set one up. I know it's free with them at the moment! Don't have the ability to set one up either.

It maybe an idea to open an account with HSBC in Girne. It may make life a bit easier for you.

With your account at Credit West it has a swift/iBAN number which allows your pension provider UK bank to transfer to other UK & foreign banks

There is a higher cost to transfer abroad and this could be a stumbling point

But if your your pension provider transfers in sterling you would get the best exchange rate in TRNC

Surely not all navy personnel return to the UK because of their pension entitlement

I have transferred on line direct to CW from a UK bank no problem

Give your pension provider swift iban number @CW and tell him to extract a didgit

Sorry halfful,

We maintained bank accounts in UK and have all our monies paid into these then transfer them over here online.

Before you make the change, have you checked the charges your pension providor will make on your pension for transfering to a none EU country. I have a UK government based pension and they place a charge to transfer pension out here.

I have a Premium Account with HSBC International (you do need a minimum in the account) where I pay pension into and then transfer for free here.

If you have IBAN you should have no problems transfering to any account here but with a small bank like Credit West may take a little longer. When I transfer on line I always have money in account on same day with HSBC.

Paul, do you still have a UK address?

If so you can set up an online account with Nationwide I do believe. Got to be the way to go. They give good exchange rates with zero commission too.

I have just checked and you can apply for a nationwide account account online. If you transfer all your direct debits etc they even give you £75. open up http://www.nationwide.co.uk and click on the current account

Thanks for all your help, have checked Nationwide out and it looks the way to go. They state that there is no charge for withdrawals within e.u. and turkey as long as it is with a debit card but they do charge with credit cards.

Bit of a pain thought I had everything covered before we moved!!!

Hi, we are in the process of opening a Nationwide account on-line (still in the UK, at present) and have been asked to provide a number of original documents either at a branch or by post, to confirm identity and UK residence. I can let you have a list of what is required if this is what you want to do.

Proof needed to confirm your name by postal application;

UK based bank or building society statement (less than 3 months old)

Lettter from benifits agency (less than 12 months old)

Gas or electricity bill (less than 3 months old)

Phone bill (not mobile) (less than 3 months old)

Water bill (less than 12 months old)

oncil tax bill (less than 12 months old)
