Well something I noticed that TRNC lacks and that is Pavements! I think Adele's tune would fit the bill "Chasing Pavements!" Seriously some areas have them, mind you you need a step ladder to get up and down from some of them! Then other areas its just dust and mud....... I did notice up near Tatlitsu the new roads include proper pavements.. Hopefully some of the UN Euros millions cash injection will be spent on building pavements.? Any ideas? Do TRNC have a Highways and paths department?....Im sure... nunu1

Norma Jean, you are correct. But in order for the pavements etc to be made the land comes from the owner of the plot alongside the road. We lost 2 metres along the full length of our road side. When your boundary wall/fence is built on road side it will be that far away from the road. You are told this is your donation to the government!!!!!!!! As for the rest, the top end of the "high street" in Girne was paved with EU money and is planned that the rest is to be done later in the year. Not sure which year, but later!!!! Personally I think it will destroy the character of the place and should be left alone.

I have to say I was shocked at the poor standard of the pavements. God know how people with prams and wheelchairs manage? Even the newly laid brick paving is all breaking up and looks an eye sore. Brick paving seems a poor choice as it does not appear to be stable. Not sure if this is due to the way it has been laid or the weather or something?

here's an idea for a newly developing place, learn from other countries. Build path ways to the side of 'all' roads (with block paving, the special subsiding type found everywhere here), use them as cyle ways or walk ways, and bury under them the service pipes/telephone cables/electric cables etc plus some empty pipes to pull cables etc through in the future, and hey presto, little chance of having to dig up roads for things later.
