Cidem,

Why to do a round of visits to hotel lobbies?

Many hotels facilitate a 'book exchange' where a guest will leave one book and take another.

Riverside in Alsancak sometimes have a very good selection. Provided you are willing to leave something in exchange, they do not mind if you are a guest or not.

Hi Cidem

I was going to suggest the English library in Girne also.

They have all kinds of books and lots of them.

We are going to join as soon as we are settled in and have time to read.

Regards

Anne

There are two bookshops in Ozankoy with lots of new and secondhand books for sale at very reasonable prices. One is the Ozankoy bookshop just past the mosque and the other at the Five Fingers restaurant just a bit further along the same road.

You can buy English novels, generally second hand, at Chateau Lamboussa, Lapta on a saturday morning, Carpenters, Edremit on a Friday morning and the Sunday markets on the Bellapais road, next to the K-pet and near the Altinkaya Hotel also at Star Bowling which is signposted off the Karakum/Catalkoy road.

The English library is behind the Post Office in Girne. It is open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 10am and I think it shuts at 12 noon (not 100% sure of the closing time but definite on the opening time).

Watch out though because as the summer months get hotter they usually only open on Saturday mornings.

Library hours are 10 - 12 every wed & sat.

Never known them shut for either day unless short of staff.

Please remember this is a volountary service and treat the kind people in there with respect. I can assure you that some people do not!

The current cost is 15tl per year which covers maintenance costs etc

There's always books at Amanda's auctions. Much cheaper than anywhere else. Think it's on this Sunday.

Amandas Auctions coming from nicosia roundabout, turn right at Bellapais traffic lights then at the !st (large) roundabout by the football ground go straight on to Ozankoy passed the school, take the next left (the lower road into Ozankoy), its about 50m on your right, if you get lost you can call Adolf (the new owner) 05338711608

You dont have to attend the auction, you can just go in and buy anytime

At the Ozankoy Bookshop our books are clean and in excellent condition and sorted into categories. We will look out books for you too but we have more than 5000 books to choose from. We do have some new books and can order them but most of our books are for exchange and we charge 5TL but give 2TL for the books you bring in exchange.

Lots of bars have a bookcase full of books but they need to be returned after you have read them.
