There are so many phone systems here but not many are landlines. If you dial a number beginning 0871 there is no prefix number. If you dial a mobile don't add 392. For turkcell, the most used, dial 0090 533 then number. Or use Skype.

You can also use Dialaround and Dialwise from the UK look on their websit and it will tell you how to do it with the number to use. Much cheaper than using BT but not as cheap as skype.

Let us get it right please. My mobile number is +90 533 862 9151

"+ "means dial the international code if you are in a different country. This is usually "00" but not in all the countries. For example the international code in Russia is "810". In UK it is "00". When registering a number on your mobile make sure it starts with +. Thus no matter where you are in the world it will dial out the correct number.

Next is the country code. "90" is the country code for Turkey. "44" is the country code for UK and "49" for Germany etc.

Next is the area code. "392" is the area code for TRNC. Notice TRNC is part of Turkey as far as telephones go. However the mobile companies have their own area codes i.e. 533 for Turkcell and 542 for Telsim.

Next comes the 7 digit local number.

If you are calling another number in the same country but different area, you begin with 0 followed with the area code plus the 7 digit local number. If you are in the same area you simply dial the 7 digits.

1/ +90 is the international dialing code for TURKEY.. there is NO official code for 'TRNC' - this is a TURKISH regional code - as far as the outside worlds PTT unions are concerned ;)

2/ In Russia 810 is the number one dials for international calls BEFORE the country code ... i.e 810 90 or 810 44

While we are on the subject, it is a good thing to remember that when in Europe 112 ( even works in UK / Eire ) is the Emergency number !!

Mark,

Sorry, my mistake for 810. I was in St.Petersburg in 2008, not even two years yet but that's my bad memory.

Dialling from the UK I use 18185 (just google 18185 and it will come up). It is 2p min to a landline and 8p min to mobile. You can get cheaper by a penny with others but you have to keep checking the number as the rates vary. 18185 also allows you to register your UK mobile, you can then use your mobile to obtain the same rates (plus normal mobile charge) which can be really useful. The call charges are then taken off your credit or debit card. There is a connection fee of 4p for international calls.

Quality can vary using these overiders but in general those you register with like 18185 tend to be better. Sometimes for a while they can go off altogether, it seems when this happens most overiders if not all have the same problem.
