DC not surprising as we kept being invaded by the Angles and Saxons post Roman times

The Midlands is divided by the Dane Law The South of which were the "English " to be

The dialect still has common Germanic words bist baint dost etc

There has also been genetic gene surveys around the St Albans area showing the strong Dutch connections through economic migration /invasion

I read somewhere (on a clubhouse wall I think) that the word "golf" was derived from the term "Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden" taken from the original rule book!!!
