Good work Hans. I'm surprised expats who have lived in TRNC for any length of time don't already know about places like like this.

Be surprised Oleander, be very surprised. You are a very judgemental person really aren't you. I have Egyptian friends who have never been to the pyramids, it doesn't make them bad people.

Not judgemental, merely observational. I prefer spending time with people who get to know their host country to boost their own knowledge and credibility. I've never been the type to hang out in ex-pat bars, eating Brit food and moaning about everything under the sun.

I can't make any statement on whether you hang about in bars or what food you eat but you do tend to disagree with quite alot of things which could be construde as moaning. What you prefer doing is for you, what others prefer is up to them. I write judgemental because almost every comment I read of yours is not merely an observation but a criticism even to the point where your last post could have easily said "eating, drinking and socialising with friends" You managed to get ex-pat, brit and moaning all the same sentence, do you see my point ??

proger, You have to get my point, though. Gonyeli is a hugely significant place and one of the best-known Turkish Cypriot enclaves. It's been pivotal in the recent history of Cyprus from the Gonyeli incident of 1958 which sparked off early inter-communal fighting to the control of the Nicosia-Kyrenia highway and the Turkish operation of 1974. Apart from all that it's clearly signposted off the aforementioned main road. Don't you think anyone who lives in north Cyprus should have heard of the place?

That would depend on your viewpoint. Obviously you will ot be happy about mine but in a nutshell, I have moved to Cyprus because it is a beautiful place with beautiful people and one day I will learn my way around but not for the reasons you have stated that I should know. History is a wonderful thing and we can learn a great deal from it but we can't chage it. I would like to see peace in the future for the Cypriot people, not TC or GC but Cypriot so with that in mind I would rather not know about the places for what they did to tear a country apart but for thier beauty. And although you have a valid point it doesn't mean you should throw insults at a group just because you dissagree with them. I know some others that do that and they are called dissedents.

proger, Well, feel free to ask any questions of this old Cyprus hand and glad you can appreciate why a good number of Cypriots don't have all that much respect for us. As for dissidents, most people respect them for their principles and bravery. Anyone who speaks out against the majority view, because they know they are supported by an outwardly much larger majority, wins my vote.

I'll bear that in mind for the future, you like being on the minority side because it makes you feel you get to shout louder. I don't know what it is your glad about but if it makes you happy then I'll be happy for you.

Oleander Reservoirs are where water for us to drink and wash come from. When they are empty ,thats bad.Thats all I need to know. Does everything come down to ROC good, TRNC bad ,with you. I see a good walk with a great view above Bellapais , My dog sees a great place to piss all over and chase lizards, You see a route that enabled Turkish tanks to attack the peaceful Greek Army . We three of us see different things.
