| This is a so-called rondeau (tenor and harp), medieval music that was most probably composed for the Lusignan King Janus of Cyprus (1398-1422). It is one of the very few remaining songs from the brief but extra-ordinary flowering of western art music in Cyprus at the end of the fourteenth and the beginning of the fifteenth century. This was the kind of music played for Kings and Queens in St Hilarion and in the Royal Palace in Nicosia. I hope some board members will appreciate this unique song called in medieval French "Contre dolour" ("Against pain" in modern English). Click this link: http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/Contre_dolour.mp3 (Be patient, please, it may take some time to hear the music). If there's any interest I'll be pleased to post the medieval French lyrics (translated in English also) and give more details about Cyprus' medieval music. |

| I agree Pat - a bit haunting. Not my type of music, plus you can't dance to it. ) |
