With the bad weather of late is anyone making an insurance claim to the damage to their homes.

It will be interesting to see if the insurers honour their policies. AP

We have been told today that the boundry wall which collapsed onto the garden is not covered but any damage caused to the area and any work needed to clean the area up is covered.

My neighbours living room ceiling got severely damaged due to the flat roof terrace above leaking and within 3 days the insurers had been out with an Assessor to survey the damage and yesterday was back out again with the building company to price up the job to fix the damage and repair the leaks to stop it happening again.

Top marks to Mr Halil Atakan the insurance agent,a true gent.

Hi Rob.

Good to hear from you...not in NC just now but Cemal tells me that he is going to wait for the bad weather to pass before thinking about repairs..I will get a full report from him and then give Greg a shout...Cemal repaired the crack but it is slowly coming back!! It appears that the builder(now gone bust) only put foundations on 3 sides of the villa...can you believe it!!!!!

Hi Navek...thanks

As a group we need to know of any insurance companies that do not honour their policies so that we can all disassociate ourselves from them. They are all very good at collecting the premiums!!

As somebody was asking....

Get your knackered pumps over to Press Teknik. They charge 180TL for virtually a complete re-condition of your pump. Including re-winding the copper wire on the armature, bearings, seals and gaskets, condenser etc.

If it only needs a new condenser and bearings, they only charged my neighbour 100TL.

His pump is now quieter than when it was new!

Very honest fantastic workers and they are proper pump repairers.

They can be found on main drag at the Alasancak/Lapta Border. Not far from the Starling Supermarket and the Laconic Computer shop (on the same side). They have a yellow stone iron railing topped wall at the front of their car park.

You need to walk down the their workshop on the LHS of the showroom. Watch out for the friendly Alsation on a chain... he seems fine but it might give you a start if you don't know he's there....

Halil Atakan is an insurance broker - his business is based in Lefkosa but he is very happy to come out and visit. His son also works in the business and they have several office staff so they are a 'proper' business. He arranges insurance through a range of companies - mostly the large Turkish ones such as Basak and Anadolu. His prices are always extremely keen, all the policies are in English as well as Turkish but, most of all, he is without doubt the most helpful guy you could ever come across. He arranges all types of insurance: house, motor, travel, medical, maritime etc etc.

Nost,

sounds good. We were advised that Anadolu were a good insurance company to go with years ago.

We are with Umbrella at present and they have never reneged on a claim either. We had two double-glazing units suddenly fail due to heat from the sun! Both paid in full. Neighbour's kitchen went up in smoke (chip pan fire) paid. Their gate, garden wall and metal railings 'hit and run' by a truck - all paid out in full.

However it will be interesting to see which ones pay out for water ingress damage.

As somebody has suggested, we ought to keep a member's register of claim success/failure to help us determine the best companies to trust.

May be one of the Mods could set up a sticky for members to record their experiences... or even better put it in a Popular Tag to last indefinitely.

The policies of Kıbrıs Sigorta and Universal Sigorta both have 2% excesses and cover internal water damage and landslides.

Mal,

I'd rather pay 2% excess that 100%...

BTW it's fairly standard to have an excess on water damage, even in the UK we had that.

Groucho, it wasn't a complaint. I'm happy with my current policy and have just made my first claim for water damage with Steve Dickinson. He responded within hours and confirmed he'll be sorting the problem out.
