walked around it last week, getting very full but they do however use it for irrigating the fields in the summer, after the rain this week it should be overflowing!

It's the Geçitköy göleti (reservoir) and it is completely full. In fact it started to overflow yesterday, fortunately the water found a way to the sea without causing too much damage.

The water is flowing via the spillway down its original Paleomilos river course and is a lovely sight. The first time in 5 years that it's overflowed. Halfway through the gorge the Vathyrkakas tributary joins it via a series of delightful waterfalls. Well worth a visit and some photos. Apart from a few flattened reeds I couldn't see ANY damage. What were you referring to Hans?

We also have photos and Videos but do not have the IT skills to show them on here. We went approx 2 weeks ago and it did not have a great deal of water in it,

But yesterday was amazing. Lot's of locals there , and knee deep in mud almost got our 4x4 stuck. (great fun)

We have excellent photos of the waterfalls behind our villa high up in Baspinar, and Videos, the sound is unreal, it is like standing next to Waterfall in Wales.

If we could have this in Summer, it would be the icing on the cake.

Come on then, somebody get some photo's on. I have been visiting the area for years and have seen nothing but the bottom of the reservoir. I am not back over until May and it will be empty by then.

The last pic is a bridge on the back road that connects two villages - Yilmazkoy and Kalkanli. You head out Guzelyurt direction then turn right.

I will have to wait until I get home tonight to look at the pics, can't wait.

My work computer has a superscout on it that stops me accessing things like that.

RE Jetski: Yes, I made a tour to make pictures (as far as I could go from Yesiltepe in both directions). And I compared the damage with the pictures from Lefkoşa which I saw on BRT TV. I agree I should have been more careful in my English - the damage at Geçitköy was the loss of tons and tons of good soil and other possible damage to (the bottom of the dam) can only been seen and determined later.

Great pics thanks. We went for a walk there last Wednesday, the day before it rained, and the water level was quite far below the measuring stick so it just shows how much rain fell in 2 days.

NCWeddings, thankyou for putting the pics on, I have been wondering about the ditches and ravines.

Do you know if much farm land has been washed away, (top soil)? As they would have a lot of their corn in.

Has any one got pics of water running off the mountain in the ravines?

We didn't go through much agricultural land, but so many of the natural fields were still under water, so I imagine when the floods were still "running" they must have lost soil and crops damaged. I dont really know though.

Not sure exactly when the bridge collapsed, but Friday some time.

What's going on with this world of ours, floods, earthquakes.......think mother nature is trying to tell us something maybe.

Drive from Karsiyaka heading west after the night clubs the road bends left and right then through the village of Gecitkoy, with the mosque on your right ,as you start to clime up the hill you will see the dam on your left. Dont deviate off the road and follow your nose.

Okay, so how do I make it a link? Here's a photo of the FULL dam taken around 3pm Monday, the water is still running down the spillway and through the creek bed to the sea at Karsiyaka!

You can copy and paste the following until I work out how to make the link work

http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gxd4WDA

Dumyat, from Karsiyaka head west as if you were going to Guzelyurt through the mountains and through the village, Gecitkoy. You'll see the turn off to the spillway on your left just out of the village....or drive further up the mountain and pull into the viewing area up top, the view down is spectacular. Everything is so green and clean!

I did mean the water in it not the land itself.

Oh and I forgot to mention that because I won't be there until May it will have gone down quite a bit.

Try this then Mountain Edge - hard to get much closer, the ground was way too soggy to go clambering any further!

Sad to see that the "cormorant tree" has finally met its maker..... it used to stand in the water (albeit long dead) on the North side of the reservoir and often had a flock (herd, shoal, pod, murder or raft) of cormorant (or Shag) hanging around in it... much like the vultures in Jungle Book (remember?). It seems to have collapsed over the winter - two weeks ago just a few branches above the waterline - now nothing. Good that the frogs are back and the little bittern can still be heard in the reeds. The Black Tulips should also be up soon around the Southern rim of the reservoir - but don't touch 'em or I'll get my big mate George on to you!

As you come out of Gecitkoy heading up the mountain, there is a pull-out a little ways up to the first bend..... to the left, you can see the slipway from there, you can park there and walk over to the dam. There were people walking along the dam wall this afternoon, and I believe you can actually walk all the way around it - when it's not so soggy!

Sorry about the sizing Britvic! Next time

Jetski the Cormorant tree was there last Wednesday but only just barely showing. It will probably re-emerge over the Summer. I also saw a massive Heron flying over the water.

We walked round last year with some friends and it took us 4 1/2 hrs..we took our time.!! Sadly too our little dog got poisioned when walking there with my husband she picked up a dead bird that had also died from the big P..we always thought it a safe place to walk her..we brought her over with us,she was 6yrs old and such a much loved dog.

Thanks again for some fantastic photos..We intend to do the walk again soon before it gets to hot,
