I know it's xxxxed. Sold my Gold too early. Still made 10% profit in a year but if I sold now rather than 7 days ago I would have made another £2 K sterling. Was hoping to buy it back on a drop but I think it may stay high now as the house of cards starts to fall. No point in saving now. The bankers and politicians have shafted most of us.

Huge UK GDP deficit, quantitative easing, high unemployment, government running scared not to cut public

spending and increase taxes before election and so on.

I think the reason the sterling is diving is because a hung parliament means whichever government gets in they will have difficulty passing the legislation needed to run the country. The reason there may be a hung parliament is that despite Mr Brown being so unpopular Mr C has failed to inspire confidence that he can do better.

Seems like Mr. Cameron is even more unpopular, and will be even more so when he is in power.

I get the feeling the Tories don't realy want to win the election.

Whoever wins is going to have to raise taxes, sack civil servants and reduce their pensions, and have five years of hard choices - not an enviable task

From a political perties point of view, it may be better to let the other side take the heat / unpopularity, and thing about five years time.

Gordon Brown for another five years fills me with dread - it seems like Labour always stuff-up the economy, then leave the Tories to clean up the carnage.

Gordon Brown returning for 5 more years may solve Corbo's problem (message 5). Gordon likes to sell UK gold to raise money and with his cack-handed approach last time of announcing how much he would sell and announcing the auction dates he brought gold down to $168 instead of the $1000+ it is today. Maybe if the UK still had that gold it could bail itself out of the current problems - provided of course that someone with a modicum of business sense was in charge of the sale.

Was reading last week that George Soros has gambled on the pound and the dollar reaching parity in the not too distant future..ie £1 = 1$. Financial markets very concerned about how Britain will repay its massive debt, the money it has borrowed to stay afloat, and the possibility of losing its triple A credit rating. The goverment are making savage cuts everywhere to save money and reduce the national debt which now stands at 12% of gdp. But as usual it will be the working class who will suffer the most, not looking good for the future, feel sorry for any youngsters trying to make their way in the world over the next 5 years.

GB got our country into the mess it's in...he was chancellor, I know the recession was global but we should have been able to ride through more comfortably...GB sold our country down the river.

Please don't....

The thing about Cameron is, he has no touch-points with the general public. He tries to talk as though he's one of the common people but he simply too hoity-toity to appeal to the man the street on any meaningful level.

As I pointed out some time ago, the current situation would seem to be a poisoned chalice and so although the Tories crave power, they don't want to take on the reins at this time and fail miserably, only to be chucked out in five years time when their promises have failed to materialise...

The Tories selected Cameron because they don't mind him failing... he'll be asked to fall on his own sword at the appropriate juncture and somebody with a bit of real political weight will take over..

I nap Ken Clarke... who's your pick?

I agree with what you say, but Ken Clarke is already 70, so too old for the 2015 election IMO

I think the financial markets will have more to do with UK economic policy than government, whoever comes to power.

Re: Msg 17,

eager, there were fears that Soros Fund Management are going to sink the euro, same as he sank the pound on Black Wednesday in 1992.

Perhaps if the world is heading to the deepest recession it is not so unwise of Dr.Doom to advise to buy farmland to produce more food?

Having just left the UK it appears that Gordon Brown is back on the defensive.

David Cameron is a much better bet for the future - labour has wrecked the country - everything has suffered: Hospitals/NHS, schools/education, armed forces, law and order, etc etc etc

the only thing that seems to have gone well are the expenses claims made by the polititions.

And lets not forget the bonuses paid to MOD staff for sitting at their desks whilst their comrades are at the front risking their lives and paying taxes for the Civil Servants to claim bonuses.

I hate to say it but Michael Denzil Xavier Portillo's name sets him apart as simply 'too foreign' for many of the old guard. Let alone his admissions of a same sex relationships nature...

Groucho...several months ago I said exactly what you have said about the "oldGuard" tories.Cameron is the sacrificial lamb along with his cohort Osbourne. I think the public are wising up to this fact and are looking at the saying "Better the devil you know than the one you dont". Would not surprise me at all if he was re elected. Look at John Major,he had given up on the 92 election but he came through.Funny lot us Brits....

BPF

At least Heseltine had honour and resigned over the Westland Affair which he knew was a totally unfair abdication of ministerial responsibility toward British Industry... The MOD had been bought he knew it, as did the Cabinet, and only he was courageous enough not to stand for it. A man of principle but ironically not a team player... he would not tow the party line.

At least he made an interesting Spitting Image puppet...

The MOD bonus's are well documented - and a damed disgrace

My husband spend 30 years in the military and my Son is currently coming to the end of a 22 years service.

your one-sided view needs to take in other aspects of this subject.

This Government approved these bonus's and they sooner the Government and the bonus's go - the better
