[Rules and first and only prize as usual]

I don't know if I should call him a member of the British nobility (Hint: "Sir B......."), but I do know we owe him our thanks. He saved this monument in Famagusta (I'll give more details in the final answer of this Quiz). When you click on the link, you'll see part of the picture I made. If even Hatty and Darrener2 (in random order, dear ladies) cannot give the right answer I'll add more and more details to the picture...

http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/QUIZ-4_1_S3500326.jpg

Answers before Thursday, March 4, 8 pm.

P.S. I doubt if there'll be a winner this time..!

Score in this new series of Quizzes: Darrener2: 1 pt. Bill: 0 pts.

That's Bidullph's gate. Named after Lt Col (later General Sir) General Sir Robert Biddulph, the second commander-in-chief of Cyprus.

RE msg 2, darrener2: (...) I know the answer but as I can only manage one drink I shall let someone else have the pleasure. (...)

=> What! You can only manage one small bottle of water..?! Tsk!

RE msg 3, ianwfs: (...) That's Bidullph's gate. Named after Lt Col (later General Sir) General Sir Robert Biddulph, the second commander-in-chief of Cyprus. (...)

=> Spoilsport! But read you answer again and decide it's one way or the other (you know how I love speling and gremmer...). And better hurry before someone else beats you (I wouldn't be surprised when Bill would join and borrow you answer)...

OK. I bow to japeal, who gave you the answer without the typos.

Now a question, as this thread is so short. What is the connection between the first commander in chief, and Victorian Light operetta?

Japeal: You did it! And now it's my turn to "don't do" something again: from now on I'll only use text and pics that have not been used for my web site... ( http://www.allcrusades.com ). You know what I mean..?

It's Biddulph's Gate, more here: http://www.allcrusades.com/CASTLES/CYPRUS/FAMAGUSTA/PHO_PIC_WEB/biddulph%27s-gate/index.html

Score in this new series of Quizzes: Darrener2: 1 pt. Japeal: 1 pt. Ianwfs: 0.5 pt. Bill: 0 pts.

RE msg 6, ianwfs: (...) What is the connection between the first commander in chief, and Victorian Light operetta? (...)

=> I'll try my luck as moderator Bill usually does (hit and miss): Connection: "The first commander in chief had a liaison (platonic of course) with this beautiful 18 year old operetta singer?"

I have been unable to log in for best part of today suffice to say that I did know the answer and hope that Hans (out of the goodness of his heart) will award me a point. I'll understand if you refuse. )

Hans, bring on Quiz 5. Please try and make it difficult, my Grandson could have answered those questions. )

Re: Msg 11,

Dear No1Doyen,

My broadband is on/off for 2 days. I was posting the correct answer ( for once in my life) when it died again. When it reappeared the answer had been already posted by somebody else. There is no justice in the world!

Please out of the goodness of your heat be sorry for me.

Hans I think that the answer to the next question will be.....9, but if anyone else answers correctly before me I will agree with them. On this basis can you award me points for the next few questions as I am feeling very down not having any?

Hans. I urge you to reconsider the distribution of the points. Both Clarissa and myself were unable to post. Also can you give a point to Hatty for her perseverence. )

I agree with what ever Hatty says. )

Dear Brits, stop moaning and whinging. This begging for undeserved points really is an unacceptable breach of the rules. And as you should know by now *I* make and change the rules whenever I see fit.

P.S. On request of our sad participant Bill I'll upload Quiz-5 in a couple of minutes and I promise all of you that number 5 is REALLY difficult...

OK Hans. It better be difficult otherwise I'll start posting some questions about the Lusignans. )
