Hi

Can anyone help me please?

I am currently getting ready to move to North Cyprus and looking to bring in a car (new) but need to get it registered out there. I also need to know about import taxes etc....

Could anyone advise me of how to do this?

An email address to the appropiate person would be a great help!

Thank you in advance!

Lulu.

Hi Lulu14 , welcome to the forum , might not be what you want to hear , but it is a lot of hassle , it would be easier for you if you purchased while you are there , and it would be helping the economy also . Why not read all the posts on the subject , then you can decide for yourself which course to follow .

Good luck , Simbas

Car must not be older then 5 years of age,if it is minimum required owning time is 5 years.

You'll get 30 days permit on arrival here, after you must apply for extention (if you want) for another 6 months and if lucky enough and know what you are doing you'd get another 6 months.

I n order to be abl;e to do those you'll need residency permit.

Also bear in mind that, the import tax on cars are based on their value, and the later you pay that the more it would lose from its value, and since import tax is based on that "bobs your uncle" and I am not telling you who your auntie is.

Here is a number for you when you get over if you have any problems with the customs:0533 873 9181

Hi

We have just brought our car into TRNC in the last month. When my husband got to the customs they gave him a 30 day permit, which expired this week. He went to Nicosia on Tuesday and was given a 3 month extention and was told that he can go back in 3 months for a further extention. We do not have residency yet as we have not applied for it as we have 90 days from the date in our passport. The car is a 1998 R Reg BMW Touring and we have only owned it for nearly 3 years - so all of this is contrary to what we had been informed were the requirements. We did contact Steve Dickinson and got car insurance in TRNC in advance so that the insurance was immediately effective when we drove into TRNC.

The information you need is in the British Residents Society handbook and probably on their website.

Hi Lulu,

İf you still decide to to get your car to TRNC ( not advised! to to hassle..) pls get your logbook faxed to you then you can go to customs in Lefkoşa and show them..They will tell you how much tax you will be paying...this will provent further dissapointment...

Good Luck anyway..

p.s. Be aware the they are on strike at this present...::(((

Lulu,

Import duty on cars is very high, if you are buying a brand new car in the UK I estimate that the TRNC Import duty will be as much as you paid for the vehicle.
