| Someone recently posted a message recently asking how long their dogs would need to stay in quarentine. Yesterday I spoke with the Vet in Nicosia, very helpful man, and he informed me, that providing, all vaccines, micro chip and certificates are in place your dog can do a 3 week home quarentine, what good news this was!!! | Yes Mary excellant news and Dr Mehmet is a very helpful chap. Unless they're are now sending vets to the airport who have authority to release the dog you may still get whisked off to Lefcosa for a short period. If you are fortunate enough to arrange a weekday flight arriving at Ercan at a civilised hour you could well be in luck. Week end flights arriving early hrs of the morning when the quarantine kennels are officially closed avoid if possible. There may not be anyone on duty to authorise the release. We arrived at Ercan late on a Sun night/ early hrs Mon morn by the time the vets arrived. Nov 2009. Not only did we have to take the dog to the quarantine kennels in Lefcosa,we had to take the vets as well!! Their truck broke down!! |

Roblyn, We have booked a Friday 10am from Stansted flight so should get in at a decent time, CTA thought this was the best flight, The Vet has said he will meet us at the airport, so all looks great, so here's hoping. Mary

We brought our dog in by car/ferry - now problems. Taken to a vet in Nicosia who checked all his documents and he was given 3 weeks home quaurantine. We went on 1st March and had all the documentation checked again and he has now been approved = not problems The dog is now legal - the car is now legal - we just have to sort our residency out.

Fistral quote was very high nearly 1K contacted Euromed in London, very helpful, got the cost down to £395.00 Our crate is 22 x 32 x 25 H so might just fit a border coliie. | Hi notthereyet, Seems like it could be too late now,but info may help others. Buy your own crate.Just put varikennel in the google bar, it will give you accurate info on how to measure your dog and what size crate to buy.Ordered it, it arrived next day, free p&p My dog is labrador size, crate cost £100 Smaller crates obviously cheaper .Book your dogs flight yourself to coincide with your own Fare from Manchester to Ercan with Turkish Airlines £280.Total £380 Depends on weight and size.Varikennels are sturdy plastic so lighter than the wooden crates. Just like to add that Turkish Airlines are excellant.Help you every step of the way,at a traumatic time |

Mary, Sounds like you're in with a good chance,I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Anyone else thinking of bringing their pets over,if because of flight times you're not able to take your pet home straight away .If they do have to spend a short time in the kennels, and it would be a short time as quarantine has been relaxed. It's really not that bad. My spoilt and pampered dog was completely unfazed by the whole proceedure, flight, short stay in the kennels etc. It was me that was in pieces.

Roblyn, I think you are right, it will be me getting worked up ,not the dog!! As I had done all the paperwork myself, I had just assumed I could check the Monty in alongside my luggae and just pay excess baggae. But CTA insisted that I book through a freight company, I tried other airlines, but the answer was the same, as CTA and Stansted is local for is it made sense to go along with them. But by doing all the legwork oneself does help keep the cost down. Yacht 56, do you have a crate, I bought one for Monty, too too big ,it would fit a zoo into it!!! Check out items fro sale if you are interested.

Hi Mary ,This is beginning to sound like the mickeythespark and roblyn show. However our experiences may be of help to others. Makes perfect sense to go from the nearest airport from base .Unfortunately I had a bad experience with CTA. Booked our flights with CTA to coincide with the flight they offered for Shaz .A week before our flight they changed the plane for a smaller one.Shaz couldn't fly,no pressurised hold on smaller plane. Obviously hadn't sold enough tickets for the big plane. It was end of Nov Maybe not a popular time to fly out here T/A was full though. .Meant kenneling Shaz till a flight became available for her. unable to give a date though Was having none of that. Lost the money for the flight because i hadn't booked flexi tickets. As you mentioned Shaz was booked in as excess baggage along with our luggage. For the first time in our lives escorted to the front of the queue by T.Airline staff Treated like VIP's Can't praise or recomend T/Airline enough

We have booked flexi tickets, was given this advise by CTA, but, yes also told things can change, so keeping our fingers crossed, if you see a very happy smily lady, first week of May, stocking up dog food and gin and tonic, you will know Monty got on the plane along with us!!! If you see me without the smile and just the G and T, hubby and dog still in Uk !!!!

hi mary regarding costs, paperwork etc. we found the same situation as you. my wife had done all the paperwork. export and import licence, rabies, pet passport etc etc. we also presumed that we could take abbie as excess baggage and avoid all the extra costs by sorting it out ourselves. when it came to booking the flights, we were told that we had to use an agent at a cost of around £600. so basically you end up paying that money, just for someone to put your dog on a plane, makes no sense to me. we arrived on friday evening and abbie was in quarrantine until monday. so not too bad.

Rattler, you are right. The ironic thing is we will drop the dog off at cargo handlers depot, 5 minute drive form the airport. They will then take Monty to the plane. What an expensive taxi ride !!!!! We will also arrive on a Friday evening so maybe I should prepare myself for Monty to stay in quarentime til the Monday.

What a shame for you all. We were so fortunate allowed to keep Shaz with us uncaged on lead within the airport building until 1 hour before the flight.Turkish airline staff then phoned down for the baggage handlers to come up to collect her. Mary don't leave hubby in the UK. You'll need him to lift Monty off the carousel when he comes round with the luggage
