I don't see what all the fuss is about. This was during the 1st WW, getting on for 100 years ago, and millions died like flies.

Why doesn't Turkey just say something like:

"Yeah. We killed them all, but they had it coming. Whaddya wanna do about it?"

Spilt milk, water under the bridge, time to move on.

Unless this about compo, I can't see what's to be gained.

If the US wants to talk about Genocide they need look no further than their own treatment of American Native Indians..

People in glasshouses?

I say...Wounded Knee... USA shame on you

Perhaps Turkey should debate this in parliament and have a vote on it too... no that would be childish.

And just think,

If the english had not come over the border Scotland would be a completely independant country with our own government run by, ohhh wait a minute, Gordon Brown. I don't suppose it makes any difference anymore does it.

At least we got to have Gordon spoiling both countries.

Re Msg 10:

Actually the figures vary from 150,000 to over three million. The fact that the number of dead is so unquantifiable and so debated is just one reason of many why this is such a complicated issue and not one which can be decided by politics - certainly not by vote-oriented representatives who depend on Armenian diaspora donations for their political survival. EG Nancy Pelosi.

Too, it's not proven that a policy of systematic annihilation (like in Nazi Germany) was in place. Given that city dwelling Armenians were not subjected to a murderous pogrom might suggest that there was no policy of intentional genocide.

Next, the EU will be demanding that Turkey apologise for killing EU citizens during the Crusades!

I suppose that Washington feels that since it pumps so much money into Turkish coffers, it can 'ride roughshod' over such a controversial and sensitive issue - typical Yank diplomacy!

Perhaps Turkey should tell the yanks to close all their bases down in Turkey and take their troops home.
