Hotels have fitted carpets.

I wasn't enquiring about suitability, please don't bother answering if you are going to lecture me on 'What a bad idea it is'.

Have you tried Mermaid Fabrics, I know I saw really large rugs there, they may do carpets as well. they are on the Catalkoy road on the right going east!

Toros in Lefkosa do fitted carpets.

We have fitted carpets in all the bedrooms only (8 yrs) & they have faired no better or worse than those in the UK. The master bedroom is overdue for replacing, but that is not surprising after 8 yrs.

Take your shoes off before entering the rooms. They are much warmer in winter, than tiled floors & it is quicker & easier to hoover a carpet than mop a floor IMO.

Message 9: I totally agree with you! By the way, when I lived in istanbul it was normal to take your shoes off inside the front door and change into slippers. I found the thought of bringing in whatever had attached itself to my shoes out on the streets in istanbul disgusting! I still take my shoes off when I get home and leave all the germs at the door! Also I would never consider lying on my bed in the same clothes I had been wearing outside!! Old habits die hard!

But bear in mind that Sandflies LOVE carpets, rugs and curtains......make sure you have plenty of Fluetex and spray all fabrics last thing at night.

Interesting difference between Turkish and TC custom - in Turkey you take your shoes off, in in TC home it's not normal

i lived in turkey, and you would never dream of trying to go into someones home with shoes on, even people doing deliveries like the gas and water man took his shoes off at the door

Toros in both Girne and Lefkosa do them. Good range of colours, not that expensive and they did a good job for me. A huge improvement in winter over the previous horrible cold marble granite!

Hi andrew4232,

We lived in Denmark before we moved to TRNC,

Everyone took their shoes off before going into someone elses house, even in summer.

Good habit if you can get everyone else to do the same

Farmagusta has a carpet shop that seems to have rolls of carpet. I also know of a UK master carpet fitter living in Cyprus.

To find the shop if you just head for the crossing in Farmagusta it is on the right, not far from the crossing.

Another option rather than having the carpet fitted, you can get the carpet cut to the size and shape of the room. The fitter takes the carpet away and gets it professionally edged.

This way during the summer months you can roll and store the carpet.

Sounds like quite a few favour carpets after all?

Not suitable for those with damp floors of walls though. Other downside here in the TRNC, that there seems to be no-one who can clean them or machines available for DIY.

Other possibility is laminate floor. Is it any easier to keep clean than tiled floors though?

scruff - we (unfortunately) have laminate floors in our apartment and I can definitely say NO they are no easier to keep clean than tiles. In fact, I think I'd rather have tiles.

I'm with Dee - I'd rather hoover all day long than keep mopping

I have fitted carpet in the bedroom, and I wouldn't be without it. Ok the quality isn't the same as in England, and there wasn't much choice when I got it 2 years ago, but in fact I have been bitten less at night since the fitted carpet than before with tiled floors. It is also much easier to keep clean.(I brought my Dyson here when I moved). As for choice, 2 years ago there wasn't much choice, Toro's and The Curtain Shop and a couple of other places, but all had roughly the same range and the same prices. as far as taking your shoes off when going in the house, all the Cypriots I know, DO take their shoes off, and they have a selection of slippers for visitors.

stella - indeed, all the cypriots I know also take their shoes off before entering the house.
