It will cost you around 150tl to buy, but it is yours for ever. I bought one in U.K which I use when I go over, and just top it up. Here you will have to pay for a month minimum. The system is different to U.K, but depending on where you are, and the reception yhou get etc, I reckon the dongle is the best thing to have come here.

I have mine from Telsim and am delighted with it. I have a 1gb and it costs 25tl a month (well a couple of kouros under.....).

YOu get the dongle free if you sign up for a year at a time, and obviously that is no good to you.

Hope that helps.

Hi Pipie, I also use Telsim and found it brilliant (on to NZ on skype for 1hr 22 minutes last night with no call drop or freezing!). The latest prices are:

Dongle - 139TL

500MG - 14.99

1GB - 24.99

3GB - 44.99

10GB - 89.99

15GB - 139.99

We got the 12 month 3GB last february and STILL have 16GB left so if you're only here for 3 weeks it may be worth considering the 50MB option.

I have ADSL connection at home and at work. So I bought a dongle from Telsim for 139 TL plus 15 TL for the minimum Package. I hardly ever use it but for 15 TL a month it gives me mobility when I need it. Just what I wanted. As far as I am concerned its a great service.

Can I take my Turkcell dongle back with me from here to UK or does it only work here?? I'll leave in in the Villa for the owner if it only works here or in Turkey, which I guess is the case.

How does Telsim compare with Turkcell for price and service.

When I last checked the Turkcell dongle couldn't be unlocked for use in the UK but that may have changed as it was some time ago. Turkcell is more expensive than Telsim and they do seem prone to price hikes on a fairly regular basis.

We tried Turkcell first and it was an expensive mistake! It will probably work well in some areas but it was worse than useless out here. Telsim works really well and even kept going well enough to use skype through all the recent storms and bad weather. It may be worth while seeing if you know anyone who has a dongle and give it a try on your machine but I suspect you've tried that????

Ooohh Wife of Mukeyspark - I really don't know. I got an O2 dongle for use on my laptop in the UK and it was very cheap, I have tried it out here but it doesn't work with Telsim. Maybe if you can get one unlocked? I really don't know the answer to that, unfortunately I'm not that technically minded:-(

I found it cheaper to buy an unlocked dongle from ebay, that way I can use it in the UK and in TRNC (with the appropriate data card)

I have UK 3G USB broadband, and when I looked to see if it could be used in N Cyprus got the following information:

http://www.three.co.uk/Help_Support/International/Going_abroad_Pay_As_You_Go/Destination_Details?content_aid=1214306364591

May not be the cheapest option, but for short term possibly the best.

What do you think?

Personally I find it better to have a dongle for wherever I go. One for U.K and one for here. Neither works elsewhere, and it just seems easier to have the right one in the right place. That also means that if you wanted, you could let others use it in your absence.

Simplicity of use is often the best option.

The roaming facility you have on mobile phones does not seem to extend to dongles (even though they are but another form of mobile phone), and maybe the suggestion above is more in line with roaming, but seems a bit pricey for any long term use (by that I mean several hours a day and a lot of downloading.

But at least pipe now has a full picture and can choose.

I have a Huawei E220 unlocked dongle which I purchased from Ebay, a 3 sim card for use in the Uk and a Telsim sim card in the Trnc. All I do is swap the cards, plug in the modem and the programme called Mobile Partner (already on the dongle, I think this is Huawei's own programme) starts up and away I go. I think any unlocked dongle will do. When I purchased the Telsim sim card over here I took the dongle and the laptop in with me and they set it up and made sure it all worked. I just told them that the dongle was unlocked and would work with any sim card. I did try Turkcell first and that also worked but seemed more expensive. I think I am right is saying you can also top up the telsim card over the phone with a credit card to save going into the shop.

By the way Stewart I think you may be lucky and get 3G (Blue light) in Esentepe, I am in Bahceli and can only get 2G (Green light) at present.

The Turkcell shop is on the left just over the roundabout heading west and the Telsim shop is a little further on on the right hand side, heading towards the new Garanti Bank, not sure of the road name.

Thanks Hatty and Bootitsme, I will look for a dongle on ebay and bring it out with me. Wish they had called it something other than a 'dongle' sounds a bit rude to me!!! LOL

O2 Broadband Dongles at HALF PRICE (£10) until Thursday 11 March 2010.

Look here: http://shop.o2.co.uk/promo/o2mobilebroadband/tab/Pay_and_Go

I use O2 mobiles and find them to be unlocked. Are the O2 Dongles unlocked too?
