we had 2 older ladys having a walk round the village about 10:15/ 10:30 this morning, and after a brief chat with them asking for directions they said that they had been to the Lavant one must asume to get a cup of coffee or tea or something, but they were told in no uncertain terms they were not open even though the sign on the door said open and the doors were open, in a small village we need tourist money as much as anyone else and to turn business away is stupid, just how hard would it have been to flick the switch on the kettle and make them some thing i must asume that they will not come back to the village or recomend it to there friends great impression we made there well done !!!

I agree they will need any luck unless things have changed dramatically in the last couple of years.

Here's "The Levant" in Karaman (by the way: formerly known as Karmi, a property once of the Carmelites). A lovely place with a nice view. And some opening times advertised on the door of the main entrance: Lunch: 12-15 hrs; dinner: 19-21 hrs.

Never talked to them but the young Asian girls are friendly enough when I go for coffee. Will try the lunch soon.

Spot Bar in Karmi will be open again soon. This is probably the best summer bar in North Cyprus, in my opinion. And not a TV or kareoke machine in sight!

Sorry people but my only experience of Levent has been that of friendly and accomadating folk and they have a proper coffee machine and can make a proper Latte

Well Andrew it seems the potential customers were woefully early, as the serving staff would not have arrived at 10:15 if the place doesn't open 'til 12, so the two ladies could hardly expect to take justified umbrage at the knock-back.

It would have been nice if the could have been accommodated but I feel you can hardly make a strong case otherwise out of this.

If the place was full of locals drinking coffee or tea and they were sent away that's different...

I was going to say it's a 'storm in a tea cup' ... but if it was coffee they were after they'd have grounds for complaint... groan.

Why are some people seemingly always ready to take a swipe at anything to do with Karmi/Karaman?

Probably because it has earned the reputation of being 'cliquey'!

i don’t think i t was a swipe, more like an observation on how not to encourage business , in these days when tourism is down and people think twice about spending money it just seems a shame not to take it when its offered especially when you’re so far off the main tourist route like we are

Yeah, but the idea that the owners of the Levant are unfriendly??? Anyone who has met Ken and Debbie will know this is sooo ridiculous!!

I think if you live in a small village anywhere then an element of being "cliquey" will exist with some of the residents. However, I've found most people in the village welcoming and helpful.

i live in the village, and love it everyone is so friendly just like it was Uk years ago, but i have to say that debbie comes across as being as miserable as sin when you pass her in the street and say hello she just blanks you and as yet i have done nothing to upset her that am aware of, but each to there own !

The village is lovely. The restaurant is very good. The pub is crap. The Spot is reasonable. Probably the nicest village in the TRNC - they should call it Carlsberg!!
