Its very strange to talk of the GC as refuges as they have all had somewhere to live in the South, were they not all rehomed? Or are they living in a compound in tents?

The TC who came over too live in NC are the ones I feel sorry for, as lets face it they have had a lot harder life with the embargo, where as the GC have had it a lot easier, and to be able to move on with their lives.....

What I find strange and unacceptable is that the ROC allow 'refugee' status to be passed on down through the family tree ad infinitum.

Did you know that there are more people in the ROC now with 'refugee' status than there ever was immediately after the intervention by Turkey in 74'

Blimey the ECHR must have moved quick. The 'Movement of Refugee and Displaced Mothers of Cyprus' had by December of last year (I think) filed 40 recourses to the European Court of Human Rights against their own government citing sexual discrimination against Mothers not being able to pass on 'refugee' status to their sons whereas the Fathers could.

What a strange old world.

Their properties in the south are worth double what their pre-1974 properties are worth up here!! Why do they continue to bleat??? If I were them I would keep quiet. The TC's should put their message across about claiming their properties back in the south! I cant understand why they dont.

Theres a 'refugee camp' between Dhekelia and Larnaca that is normally empty. At one time when foreign dignatories visited Cyprus the ROC govt used to bus in 'refugees' to fill the huts and houses and tents in the camp to show the visitors the plight of these poor refugees dispossessed by the naughty Turkish Army, then when the visitors had left the 'refugees' were bussed back to their permanent homes. I dont know if this still happens or not.

On a more serious not, I would recommend caution when going south in your trnc plated car, the gc's are not happy with the ruling of the ECHR and could cause trouble...just be alert!!

What, AJ, ...passed down,.... how can that status be passed down when they were all re-housed!! Most now born in their new state.

Refugee is when you flee from war, taking refuge in another country, so what they are saying is that the South IS a different country then. So they (GC) recognise the fact that it is two seperate states then....

It strikes me that this refugee thing is now null and void..... Rehoused, in the more affluent South.....

The GC bleat on about how they have lost out, granted that they were forced out of their homes, but unfortunatly in war someone loses.

Perhaps the GC should take mainland Greese to court for starting the trouble which caused them to have to leave their homes...... Some how I dont think they see themselves as ever being in the wrong......

They see themselves as the victim, and not what they did in 63 to 74....

That, unfortunately is a GC and Greek trait....... never in the wrong - always someone elses fault. Look at how Greece is blaming everybody else apart from themselves for its current economic woes. It'll be the same when RoC has the same problem. No doubt the TRNC and Brits will get the blame. They need to get their own greed and their education systems in order and look at how the wider world really perceives them. Perhaps then they'll realise that they are not the centre of the universe and that really, nobody actually cares about them any more.
