If you have residency stamp on your passport then you cannot bring a car in and hope to avoid paying tax for a year. We thought that you could do this but had to pay import taxes immediately when we brought in our car. The tax holiday is only if you bring the car over as a visitor but once you are resident then the tax is due

I am not a resident.

They stamp your passport that you've imported a car

it made the passport control man in Turkey take a second look

Car must be under 3 years old

Or owned for 5 years by the importer

Go to the customs in Nicosia with the log book and they will tell you if you can or not and the cost

If the car has 12 months UK tax on it you can run it for 12 months with stamps put ion the import sheet at under 30 days 6 months and I'll tell you when the next one is in a weeks time when I've been for it to be updated

The lower the cc of the car and non diesel reduce the tax

Also as some of the tax is in $ the exchange rate is not good at the moment

Cenk @ Euromed was the most cost effective to import the car on a Ro Ro ferry no passengers though

racoonchic,

please be careful. We did our homework, were prepared to pay the £5,000 to import our car. It only

had a few thousand miles on the clock even though it was fairly old.

We ended up paying over 10K as they've now put up the tax that is paid in dollars.

We had two choices, pay up or return the car to UK.
