We went to Digital Supreme and got a good package with English TV (Emmerdale, Corrie and East Enders) plus loads of others, also loads and loads of movie channels and sports channels and sky news plus loads of other interest channels ie history.

Hi Ocean

You have several options :

1/ fit a 1.8m dish ( quality of dish / fitter VITAL ) and your SKY box ( with a 19/ month sub) will get many UK TV channels including ITV1

2/ without a sub - but with a new white SKY Free to View card it will get you some UK channels incl ITV1

3/ Without a sub / FTV card you'll get SKY NEWS / CNN / BBC news 24 ( and a lot of sport / concerts via the red interactive button) and shopping / religious channels !!

4/ Best option - if you can afford it.. get an HD box and subscription - HD channels MUCH stronger and you'll get movies / sports - perfectly -the ability to record progs and playback to suit different time zone- occasionally you'll have to reset the HD box

5/ ULTIMATE OPTION - fit a 4.2m dish / share one - then you'll get BBC 1-4, C4, Five, ITV 1-2,4 ( latter plus 1 hour variants) as well as any subscription channels you pay for

Ocean,

I believe that If you have a tv in England and connect a "sling box" to your tv at home that should enable you, to watch UK television via your computer. You will need a good internet connection in N Cyprus..I am no technophobe but a friend who has a place in Spain did this and now watches all his home programmes at no cost except for internet charges. He seems to be able to watch all the freeview channels.

We are going to try this ourselves when we next come out. If this does not work we have a spare sky box and card and will go down th 1.8 metre dish route.

mmmm have you had experience of a sling box?

I'm interested in this sling box idea. If you have a Sky HD subscription in UK can you send signals to Cyprus without paying anything extra? Please can someone provide more info? Thanks

We have Slingbox set up and when you have a good connection then its great. Whatever you can watch on your set in UK then you can watch it here. We have the SKY extra set package in UK set up on my daughters bedroom set and we can change channels etc without it affecting their viewing. By the time they want to watch upstairs we are in bed here. We were on Extend Broadband and it was not too bad until a few months ago. It then became so bad we changed over to Nethouse but that is far worse, I think we will go back to Extend when our three months is up

Ah ok thanks Zanky. I have the Sky multiroom package in UK so I could connect to the bedroom telly as well. Is it just a one off payment for the Slingbox setup at the Cyprus end?

no you buy the slingbox in UK and set it up in UK you then connect to it over the internet from here...We bought ours about 2 years ago and the cheapest supplier was Amazon at around £100. Slingbox were very good about setting it up and did a remote set up on it. Its almost as if you set up a web site on your own TV in UK that is just for you to use. Obviously you have to continue to pay your Sky charges. If you get the chance you can come to the Bookshop and I can show you how ours works.

That would be fab. I'm back in Cyprus from next Saturday (27th) so I'll send you a private message and arrange to pop in and see you and some point. Thanks very much for your help!
