Yes it does work on outdoor pools....we have this system and it is available here in the TRNC. It is an invisible liquid blanket that halves pool water evaporation saving water and keeping heat in.

The company is called HeatSaver and they sometimes advertise in Cyprus Today. The contact is John 0532 340 2230.

No connection with the company except for purchasing this and other products from John.

If you have a skimmer pool, this stuff is v.good. Doesn't work so well in overflow pools though, for obvious reasons.

How much is it for a 12 x 4 metre pool?

Do you have to put this in every night or do the molecules stay in the water and just collect once they come to the top?

Take your point on overflow pools, but, if the pump is off overnight?

Or am I being silly!

msg 5 - Correct in that the molecules stay in the water.

Rob,

I think you lost me there for a moment?

With overflow pools a single dose will float on the surface, as it should, but will then be washed into the balance tank, where it will float on the surface. As the balance tank outlet is at the bottom of the BT, the liquid blanket is not returned to the pool. If you put the dose in at night after the pump stopped it would be OK, but the idea is that the liquid blanket is better if it is "on" 24 hours a day. With skimmer pools there is no BT and the liquid blanket is returned to the pool as fast as it is "skimmed" off.

I thought the technology allowed the molecules to be in 'dispersal' when there is any 'agitation' in the water and only rise to the surface when the poolwater is still, i.e. when no-one in pool, or pump off.

Surely the BT will be in a state of 'agitation' whenever the pump is running, thereby returning the molecules to the pool.

When the pump is switched off, surely the majority of the molecules will have been transferred to the vastly greater surface area of the pool compared to the BT (which also should have enough molecules to maintain BT water temperature). With none of the molecules being lost from the system.

As far as I remember, this liquid "blanket" is 1 molecule in thickness. It has an affinity for itself so the molecules bond together to form a very thin layer that floats on the water as the molecules have positive buoyancy. When you dive in you break through this layer and when you get out the layer reforms behind you. This occours in a skimmer pool. In an overflow pool this thin layer is stripped-off and ends up in the BT, where it floats on the surface and is not returned to the pool.

In any case, the BT water will only be agitated when the water level in it is quite low.

TRNC Vaughan is quite right. It doesn't work on overflow pools for the reasons he stated. I know, I've tried it.

It's a Canadian product and sells under the name "tropical fish". It's a plastic fish filled with the liquid. You cut a small hole in it, expel the air and it drops to the bottom the pool and the liquid slowly releases and floats to the surface.

The liquid comes in a plastic bottle that is connected to the pool equipment system and a small amount is released once per day. A 4 litre bottle lasts about 3 months. It costs £121 for the 4 litres.

I bought our 8x4 solar pool cover in the UK for about £100 - 2 years old if it's survived the winter

This product may reduce evaporation, but won't keep the dust and insects out

Heatsaver Kuzey Kibris Ltd offers the heatsaver liquid pool cover here in Cyprus with a sister company in Turkey, Heatsaver Istanbul.

The liquid cover saves heat energy and by more than halving eveaporation saves water. It is suitable for all types and shapes of pool and being biodegradeable requires dosing manually or automatically every day. Dosing at 1ml/m2 for overflow pools and 0.8ml/day for skimmer type pools. It costs approx £1/day for a 5 x 10m pool.

The monomolecular cover cannot be seen, smelt or felt and as it circulates around the pool system reforms into a layer on the surface once the water is no longer disturbed.

For more information and testimonials http://www.heatsaver.co.uk for English or http://www.heatsaver-istanbul.com.tr in Turkish with links to our company. The product originates from Canada but has been distributed across Europe from Heatsaver UK.

We also have details of limescale reducing Combimate and MagnaClean central heating system cleaner.
