shoot me down if you like, but you are supposed to be retired - do you have a company registered here in the TRNC to be able to advertise your business legally?

but why not? surely there is a fee involved, and not just a friendly favour? the interest to me is that I live and work here and pay my dues to the government, and some people don't when its clear that they are operating a buiness of some kind! partly the reason the government is on its knees, is because of so many of us foreigners are operating in this way.

even more so, when you are hiring out your boat, its peoples lives that might rely on a person operating legally with all the benefits that offers.

i wouldn't have called this a debating question to be honest either.

the government dictates PIPIE, not me - I am just a silly person who believes that the law should be followed in others countries, and am brave enough to try and get that across, even if others find that outrageous and rude. nowt wrong with that.

Hi Hot Hornet,

You along with others are straight on the case whenever people mention or offer a service! Please Dont assume people are not registered to work legally in Cyprus. Naturally N Cyprus along with any country do not want illegal workers. JUST remember it takes a lot of effort, time and the usual MONEY to start a business anywhere in the world, and there are no gurantees to being sucessfull. GIVE people a chance to get started!

p.s. A lot of people dont wish to work for companies, especially if they specialise in a profession. And as far as NC Government being on their knees, I DONT THINK SO. They received 173,000,000 Million Euros as part of a 2 Billion Euro cash injection from the United Nations as part of the Annan agreement several years ago........Thats without all the other taxes they raise and the financial assistance from Turkey.

I had to reply to this thread!!!!!!!!! I will await your stinging reply Hot Hornet!?

PPS The North Cyprus Government do not exactly make it easy for people to start up business either! $100,000 usd to start up........and a Turkish Cypriot partner takes 51% of the comapanys ownership!

They are short of skilled or specialist trades in NC so the Government need to look at utilising and encourage people in the World with these skills to help NC flourish.......surely?.....What do other Forum readers think......?

PLEASE lets not start another bun fight on this issue, I know I have set the ball rolling but only with facts.....Lets have a constructive debate...if it turns into one on the subject of Legitimate business and services?

Regards....nunu1

i don't really want to reply, as this thread will stay at the top then!!

suffice to say, if people are registered then perhaps they should make that part of their post when touting - it would given them a better quodos as far as I am concerned.

To say that some people don't want to work for companies is, well, tough really - you don't have a choice as a foreigner, and people should explore their options before they come here. Businesses either florish or they don't, but that doesn't give people the right to operate something, with the view of just seeing how it goes before they think about legalising it. And I really don't believe that even if something was successful they would then want to have to pay their dues!

yes it takes a lot of time, effort and money, I have the experience to agree, so I had no problem with it as I had done the research first.

Also you don't think the gov't is on its knees? That money is long gone, lining pockets along the way - NC has been unable to cope with the influx of us lot for a few years now, with no infrastructure and not enough personnel to oversee this island - why do you think they have allowed all these gory hotel complexes to be built - they provide essential works to provide infrastructures.

And do you really know how the income from Turkey comes - at a price - having to agree to have more Turks come here in return. And dare I say it, uneducated ones at that - poor people whos interest in this place is short term, here to earn enough money to send back home to their families.

The list could go on, and I don't want to start another battle ground! I see what you are saying, I really do, but I can't help myself - something that stirs the nest as it were!

Hot Hornet, Your comments and points are very good and valid. I do believe the amount of construction (Building) that has gone on in the North (Cyprus)

has created a lot of employment and business (Spinoffs) Along with the tourism increase (Not as much as they would like)......This is all revenue and making the money go round.

It is not easy I grant, running an economy and country especially one with a not so nice legacy (if thats the right way) to describe TRNC. But I do believe the NC Goverment need to perhaps focus on various industries and policies that will assist and benefit their economy.

You say "US LOT" well yes I see what you are saying, but every Brit (I hate the term Ex Pat) that lives in NC spend money there....Food, fuel, electric, water, restuarants, bars, hair salons, car servicing (I can do that as well!) etc etc are spending money, so that keeps business and economy going.

Yes I appreciate you dont want to start a long debate.....Ive gotto go as I have to go and do some work....(UK)

Take care Hot Hornet Enjoy that lovely weather!

thanks for being diplomatic - I am doing my best to be!!

only one thing to add though - with the opening of the borders, are we really spending all our dosh on this side - i don;t think we are. I am also guilty from time to time for having a Maccy D's or two, but I always remind myself that its a treat and not something that I do on a regular basis.

don't think we can say the same for the majority of europeans, who seem to now be moaning about not getting all this stuff in the north - personally, I am quite happy we don't get all the commercialism and the rest of it!

The TRNC are losing out big time with revenue in lots of ways.

you say your doing your best to be diplomatic , please try a little harder
