I have an acquaintance from the UK who is a corgi registered plumber and thinking of setting up a business here would there be a call for his services on the island or would he be wasting his time and money ?

most gas connections are just a gas bottle with a flexi pipe with a regulator already attached (very little copper run gas piping) so cant see it being viable.

Yes, there is a need for trained plumbers to service and repair Gas Boilers albeit Corgi is not recognised in the TRNC. To work here and set up his own company he needs to have $100.000 and this amount is 'blocked' until the Company is formed. Then approx £12.500 is 'blocked' for a period of 18 months to cover any unpaid taxes, social security etc during this time.

Hope this helps.

now that is the question, do you work legally or risk getting deported

I think from some of the bodged work i have seen here he might be on to

a good thing. As a company at least he will be able to advertise his services

instead of trying to work by word of mouth and risk someone dropping him in it

as has happened here in the past

Hi Jac

you work at Homefront without a permit...you must think it is worth the risk?

Hi D and J

I would think that it would be viable as there are so many poor and in need of attention installations. If the person has the ability to work with plastic, iron as well as copper then there is far more scope than just basic plumbing.

Swimming pools, air conditioning, central heating, commercial installations.

Hard work and commitment will open the doors of opportunity.

All the very best

If prepared to work on 'the black' gaining a reputation by word of mouth knowing what needs to be done and achieved with speed at a very reasonable rate this would be viable. Tools and appropriate equipment would need to be imported under the disguise of personal goods but the whole venture could pay for weekly expenses knowingly that a fortune will not be made.

I don't think i know who you are,but you seem to know both Jackie & and myself, perhaps by asking us about our work status we could have clarified it for you, rather than you making a very derogatory comment on an open board .We have work permits

Obtained through Homefront

If you would like to call into the shop and explain to Ebru, one of the company directors

that you think we are illegal,i am sure she will show you all the relevant paperwork

particularly as she went to a great deal of time and trouble to obtain all the legal paperwork

needed to work here legally

I think the Deeom comment sums up some of the people on this board, rumours without proof.....and back to the subject

Did you know Corgi registered gas fitting is now not the recognised standard in the UK. There is now "Gas safe" where all fitters have to be registered and appear on their website as genuine and legal. Something to do with too many false certificates as Corgi registered.

I think its something to do with the pipework that may be involved. pipe fitter gas fitter air con engineer heating engineer are by most of the uninformed public refered to as plumbers.

My partner set up a buisness here 4 years ago Ex gas board fitter and registered Corgi engineer 1)Corgi not reconised here by Goverement so you have to sit their exam (You need to take somebody who speaks Turkish as all questions are in turkish Exam very easy he said and so basic a child of 5 could pass)no gas involved? So after 2 years of paying taxes to the goverment Had heart problem Returned to UK to sort out a bodged operation over here While there the Goverment in there wisdom carried on charging him tax. After much ado and letters going backwards and forwarsds Dr letters from both N Cyprus and UK (which took over 6 months to complete They decided to charge only a smaller amount. He then shut the company down as it was bankrupt So they then charged Approx £600 Sterling to do so.Starting a buisness Out here Forget it Stay in UK and earn a decent living.Come over here for a holiday and spend some of it here then No Problems
