I've had two supposedly security alert emails from HSBC with a link... nothing clear what the email is about other than 'security' my email server marks this as a possible phishing scam and I've deleted both of them without clicking the link...

Question is

Do not open any security alerts or messages from any bank etc...if genuine, it will be on the website, not sent in an email....same with any calls reporting to be a bank etc

I am not sur ehow it is with HSBC as I don't bank with them any more but the 3 other banks I use send me stuff by e-mail as they probably realise I don't chack their website on a regular basis.

I would imagine though that Stewart is correct, rather than open a mail you aren't sure about go directly to the website, if it is important there will likely ba a link about it there.

If it was genuine, they wouldn't use a link in the email itself. It would ask you to open their web site independently.

You would like to think so but it took many emails and phone calls to stop (if they have stopped) links to the banking site in thenewsletter from my bank.

I had an e mail warning me about a credit card scam and what they say and ask you on the phone, basically they have all your information and just need your 3 digit security code.

It actually came from my HSBC account manager in the UK, so yes I opened it and will now be aware of the scam they are trying to pull on both Visa and Mastercard accounts.

The scammers actually rang my account manager for details about her card and being who she is she knew it was phoney.

The HSBC one is a scam. I had something similar asking for all sorts of details, so I checked it out bygoing into my account. No problem with it, did not ask for any new details, so assumed the email i had was a scam. I also get them from Alliance & Leicester, Barclays and another one(forget now who). They are all scams.

Please note....just opening up an email, can give hackers access to ALL of your codes / passwords etc that are on your computer.....be warned!

ps do not give any details over the phone inc the last 3 digits....if need be phone them back

HSBC acronym, ideas anyone? Too late in the day for me but I'm sure there's a good one there!
