move review: "Just a warning, do take many tissues. I am a grown man and can honestly say that I have never really cried during a movie. I think the score of the movie plus the dog being so adorable made me lose myself. When I looked around the theater though, every single person was crying and I saw a lot of red eyes as I left the Men's restroom. Any movie that can make me do that deserves a 10/10"

"First time, first time in my life I have really cried after and during the movie, I cried like a baby almost all the film's second part. I had never cried because of the film before I watched Hachiko: A Dog's Story. I can't imagine the person who would not cry watching this movie. And first time I give 10/10 to a movie, because it has left a lot of emotions that I had never felt before because of the film. Don't watch it if you don't want to cry hardly, watch it if you are not afraid to cry and wanna see a really extraordinary drama. Green mile, Titanic or something like that are absolutely far away from movie. The best movie I have ever seen! 10/10"

Just checking out the film... I wonder if it is really based on Greyfriars Bobby... I know they say 1920's Japan but I think the Scottish story is older and very similar.

It's a true story just google HASHIKO. Although Hollywood transplanted it to the good old USA.

Newscoop, So is Greyfriar's Bobby... and it's much earlier. All I'm saying is there are remarkable similarities and there are at least two Greyfriar's Bobby films. One as recently as 2006. Greyfriars Bobby was a Skye Terrier who became known in 19th-century Edinburgh after reportedly spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner, John Gray, until he died himself on 14 January 1872. Whenever you are in Edinburgh you should go and see the Greyfriar's Bobby statue.

Groucho; I know all about Bobbie, been there, seen it, bought the T shirt. Obviously there are similarities but they are two different canines from two different countries. And both true. Therefore Hashiko is not "based" on Greyfriars Bobbie.

Newscoop, OK there are more than two faithful dogs in the world... If you look at the Wiki entries for both the similarities are absolutely striking. double take on the bronze statues! I've download Hachiko: A Dogs Story and I'm sure we will love watching it, so I appreciate the plug from NN, I was only trying to point out the almost uncanny likeness of the stories. and wondered if Bobby's story had been influential in the US movie version... wouldn't put it past them. The Yanks, if it's worth writing it's worth nicking first.
