Its all happening right here - in my town! The Festival runs from tomorrow, Tuesday - Friday inclusive, with the Gold Cup race being moved from its traditional spot on a Thursday, this year to Friday. Good to know that this great event is being screened in NC. On the downside though the weather forecast isn't too brill, especially for Thurs/Friday but the regular punters never seem to mind what the weather throws at them!

Hi Swannee7

I'm only 14 miles from Chelters.. in my youth I used to work at the Queens Hotel and the Carlton Hotel .. GREAT memories of the celebrations and card games..

I was born on Gold cup day in Cheltenham many moons ago and my Mum purchased a pram for me when her friend at the time put a small wager on Bony Baby or something like that to celebrate my appearance. As the years went by I bet on the Gold cup on a similar theme and often won. For instance on the Fellow, when I was grown up. Will be looking for a nag called the Grumpy old Bastard this year..or similar.

Maybe I'm just too young to back My Will. 220-1 on Betfair.

Suppose DenMAN is the closest and it will win.

Didn't realise there were so many "Cheltonians" on the forum. We relocated back to our home town last August after three years in NC and now live a stones-throw from the racecourse. Love the atmosphere in the town during Gold Cup week and it's extended to four days this year. Our son will be working there for two of the days including St Patricks day so is hoping for some good tipping. And it is a glorious sunny morning so a good start to the four day event, but not sure it will end on such a sunny note. All a good craic though. TRACEY

Hi to you, too, 6Ms . Near neighbours indeed! Town's already full to bustin' and both 'your' hotels creaking at the seams. Great start weather-wise but outlook not so great over 4 days, especially Thurs/Friday, the two big days of the meeting.

Hi also to Macman, a fellow Cheltonian! Do you have any views of the course from where you live ? Are you in Prestbury, Pittville or Southam areas ?

Back to the Gold Cup - the big match between Kauto Star & Denman - if the going gets heavier by Friday (likely), then Denman might have the edge as he's such a stayer. Don't rule out Imperial Commander in the betting stakes either !

The three legged nag at 200/1 in the big race of the day which came in from Dubai must be worth a £1 each-way bet. So said BBC Radio 4 This Morning!

Brinsley.

How about a couple of Pounds on Mon Mome at 150/1 Each way and you have to remmber he did win the Grand National 2009 at 100/1.

Sorry Brinsley - it didn't even make it half way round the wrong way. The third leg of the poor beast couldn't keep up. It's been a good day's racing on day 1 with some close call upsets. Enjoy day 2 on Wednesday everyone !

Anybody backed a winner yet, especially with good odds? The bookies are still doing well as many favs got pipped. Choose carefully tomorrow, Thursday, as rain is forecast in the afternoon & it'll get more slippery/sticky. The same goes for Friday.

Its Ladies Day tomorrow and they get the chance to show off some fancy outfits they've thought up for the occasion. Not like the summery, flowery outfits at Ascot in the Summer, but more in keeping with this time of year. Just hope it doesn't rain on their parade!
