I was sent this link over the weekend to an article in North Cyprus Free Press saying that the ECHR have set a deadline for Greek Cypriots claiming compensation/restitution from the Immovable Property Commission.

http://www.northcyprusfreepress.com/2010/03/13/greek-cypriots-must-claim-property-by-31st-december-2011/

I cant find anything else online confirming this story by Dominic Freeman. Can anyone else shed any light on this story? There was no mention of a deadline in the ECHR press statement regarding the IPC.

It is reported in the Cyprus Mail's website by GC journalists, so it may well be true... but we all get things wrong from time to time.

As the IPC have an official deadline of Dec 2011 maybe that's what they have picked up on.

Groucho would it be possible for you or anyone else to post the link to the article in the Cyprus Mail? I have just been on their website and cannot find it.

Hi all,

I think you will find that it is the IPC who have set the deadline and not ECHR.

Previous deadlines have passed and have been extended, so it may not be such a deadline as reported.

Not sure what would happen when the deadline passes, can GCs go back to suing for trespass because the IPC would no longer be open to them?

I agree malsancak, it's in all of our interest that the IPC continues to be seen as the local remedy.
