have you never seen the documentrys on television about people taking packages through customs for strangers. some ended up on death row for drug smuggling, you must be mad to take somone up on a offer like this even if you know them. not worth the risk losing you freedom. allways beware of people asking you to take parcells through other countrys you could be the next one on the tv having an interview through the cell bars, telling every one you didnt know what was in the package and it wasnt yours it was only a favour for somone. regards sweep

My sentiments entirely. I was asked at Heathrow to take a woman`s hand baggage on board. I pointed out the notices to her and said an emphatic NO. Saw the police talking to her when we got to Ercan. Dont do it.

hiya sweep and whistler, whilst i agree with what you say, customers have asked me to take things back to post and shown me the contents, so i had no worries, Also I brought back two german jaCKETS FOR ALLO Allo, I knew what was in the parcel so again no probs, along with presents for the SOS. Its very difficult receiving or posting items from here as very little get here or even get to UK, so in instances like this Im happy to help when I can as long as I know what Im taking xxxxxxx

Cyprusharv. Sweep and I have obviously hit a raw spot for you to react so rudely and defensively. It wont be us getting a life (behind bars) but maybe the person who takes a parcel for somebody else. I hope you are never on a plane when it gets blown up by somebody carrying a parcel. You would probably be the first to complain if security was non-existant at an airport you were travelling through. I`m off now to get a life.

Yes Whistler good idea! GET A LIFE!!!! The item BTW for anyone genuinely interested is a silencer part for a motorbike. Perfectly legal! 30 GBP for anyone that can help. I can even run you upto the airport (Ercan) and go through the security with it if in doubt.

hi cyprusharv cyprusharve thanks for the advice but i have quite a good life as it is, just to remind you it isnt me asking openly on a public forum will anyone take items through customs. a motorcycle silencer you say , well these are usually hollow with a insulation stuffed inside them to create the baffle on the noise the engine makes making this an exellent item to dismantle and stuff with what ever you like, not that i am saying you are doing anything illegal. if you cannot hand out good friendly advice on a public forum what is the point is having it in the first place. lilli before you take anything through customs for strangers or friends please watch the film based on a true story of a guy courght taking drugs through a turkish airport believe me i doubt you will ever chance it after watching this, my comments were posted as i was thinking of you being innocently locked up away from your family for somthing you may even be aware you were carrying.

the comments were posted in good faith and tring to warn peolple of the dangers of taking packages for anyone through customs. to act in such a defensive way to the two postings really places doubt on the person asking you to do this. please be very carefull if you decide in the near future to do anything like this as if there was ever anything illegal in what you were taking through customs do you think they are going to come after someone you emailed on a forum absloutley not you will be the victim not them. travel safe and beware of strangers remember what you parents told you as a child.

when we were in Sri Lanka our young tour guide asked us to take a parcel to the UK for him, my hubby straight away said "yes", when I queried this later he said "what a lovely lad". When we saw him the next day, I said, when you bring the parcel I would open it and inspect it first, we never saw him again!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been reading this thread with interest and I would make only two comments on what I have been reading. Firstly Harv I am sure that you know that there are more efficient ways of exporting parts to the UK and secondly your offer of carrying said parcel through security at Ercan is not the issue, the issue is security/customs at the Uk airport of arrival. I see no evidence of any paperwork being provided to exonerate the carrier from import duties. Although I am sure your intentions are honourable, I think you need to understand exactly what could go wrong for the person that ends up carrying the parcel into a UK Airport. AJ

Karakum5c. Even though Molly's cafe is closed, I will gladly take your package and the $1,000 up front. In fact, I now understand, why you chose a business that was closed. I cannot guarantee delivery, but I'd be $1,000 better off and either 10kg's of washing powder, or 10kg's of "coke" ahead! I may then have $250,000 bounty on my head, but I'd be either very clean, or totallly wasted! PS. I'll be wearing a black uniform and my police car will be outside the Pia Bella.

I must have overlooked the fact that the TRNC is a major hot bed for narcotics exportation and of course the logical place to ship from(with its numerous trade routes and proximity to weathly western capitals) Why would you want to risk the notoriously stringent Dover/Calais customs when you can fly 6 hours and pass through 3 airports??? Come on guys this request appears innocent. Lets not all queue up for a pious public lynching.

koroglu83. It`s not a public lynching. A couple of people tried to warn him of the dangers involved in this exercise and he came back being very offensive towards them. The film by the way Liz and Sweep, I think ,was Midnight Express.

koroglu it is not a public lynching as you suggest the comments were posted to inform and hopfully protect people. if my posting saves one innocent person and informs hundreds who read cyp44 and may of done a similar favour without a second thourght well it was worth it. i have abosloutly no bad thourghts towards genuine people asking these kind of requests it is the one in a thousand who have a hidden agenda behind there actions i am educating the nice people of the north of the dangers of such requests. whistler you are bang on it was midnight express, after watching such a scary movie i would rarther be on the safe side and turn down any offers no matter what the rewards even if it was for a friend for free not in a million years. watch the on going tv series banged up abroard you see all the scams, stories and even people who do it whilst there loved ones are with them and unaware as to what is about to unfold before there eyes. regards sweep.

Thanks London Cypriot for your advice. By my calculations it will cost 67 euros. I think it will be the best bet- sure it will be quicker and the price about the same as NC. I'll do it on friday unless I have any offers although I think my offer has now lost any interest thanks to a few "do-gooders"!!! Why oh why do I waste my time?
