Harita,

There's plenty going on here if you look for it... the best things in life are free but kids are going to love King's Pin Bowling Centre, simulators and 4D Theatre etc.

We've holidayed on Gozo so know what 'Ted' means. You can walk across it in a day! We loved it but we are glad we chose Cyprus...

Hi Neil .. I read your profile & 40 is a little bit early to retire .. The bottom has dropped out of the property market here .. If you can support your family without having to work then it is a great place to live ..

I wish you the best of luck ..

Welcome Ted, I have been to Gozo and yes it is very small, the best thing there is the cathedral or church, really quite beautiful.

For the most part the island is very green at present... and not that scruffy. Yes there are spots where fly-tipping has blighted the neighbourhood, but hey that happens in the UK and the rest of Europe too.

In fact with all the work on roads, paths and the like it's becoming a lot less scruffy and more cosmopolitan by the day. Some say the quaint oldy-worldy character is being removed but progress has always had this effect.

I didn't think Malta was scruffy, very barren yes and very dusty, but parts of it quite beautiful and the churches are amazing.

The buses are very old and very scary, I went with my sister and we had a ride in a horse drawn carriage, now that was seriously scarry going down the cobbled streets in Valleta. lol.

Uncle Ted welcome and for all the others trying to dampen your move take no notice there are some real grumpy old men on this forum .Trnc is great as far I'm concerned . I've just come back to UK for a week and can't wait to get back to Lapta and the scooter shop the prices in the UK seem to be catching up with the rest of euroland we just bought a dozen eggs cor blimey £2.20 and the crime totally disheartening my son's scooter shop broken into once again .So all in all I think TRNC is a pretty good place to live

I do think that you need to live on the island for a while to get to know it & find out the best place for you to live we all want different things so take your time, no rush .

we looked at places in gozo but property there is very pricey

the ideal is a "gozan farmhouse"

although these are new-build they are classy and always use limestone blocks

with about four or five bedrooms and a gallery and invariably a roof terrace

featuring locally-made pine furniture throughout as a rule

when we were there almost every second house was being upgraded or rebuilt

gozo is small but very picturesque and easy going, quite a change from malta

a big minus is there are few beaches since most of the island has only cliffs/rocks,

whereas the far west and east of cyprus/karpaz has lots and lots...

wouldn't have thought the climate is much different to cyprus maybe less extreme

for the well-off I believe the expat tax regime is generous tho living costs are high

Msg 49

the prices are high, we pay nearly £1400 a month for a 4 bed with apool but no garden no drive no air-con. and as they do not plaster the walls the houses do get very dusty.

the clifs are god for spinner fishing and i catch tuna know and then, we did a little shop last night and for 2 small bags it was £80.

not much for the kids to do, and as you said it is just full of building sites.

you did need to have a good income or pension to live here, think that's why Garry Neville, billy connolly and a few others all have places here.

but not for the kids
