Hi Thanks to everyone who replied to my earlier post...just a couple more questions: How is the pollen count in NC? Both my wife and I suffer with hayfever so hoping NC won't be as bad as the UK! I read somewhere that there can be problems taking alcohol across the border from South to North? If we have alcohol bought from the UK airport will we be able to get it across the border? Thanks!

Hi - you wont have a problem going across the border - the authorities really are very friendly. ~If you are in a taxi you dont even get out of the car - the driver will take your passport to the booth and you will be cleared straight through. Dont worry about taking a couple of bottles with you - there really will be no problems - Have a great time - it is a wonderful place.

As to hay fever, dependant on the time of year (IE, for the next four months) everything will be dead and brown, so little pollen problem.

dw, If you do carry anti-hystamines be prepared to tell police/customs exactly what they are if they pull some out your bag. I had some loose and GC cops thought they were uppers.

Dust is more the problem than pollen. Friends have just gone home and eyes and nose streaming most of 2 weeks. Any problems though go to nearest Eczane (pharmacy) and they wil be happy to help. They can give you things only available on script in UK so would always suggest there first before paying a GP. As for alchol at customs. I get tired of reading there is no problem at the crossing. Most of time there is not but be aware of what allowances are coming into or out of North Cyprus, because if you are stopped they do confiscate everything and possibly fine you. 1 litre of spirits and 200 ciggies plus whatever wine all. is, per person.

Thanks cyprusishome. We'll only have 1 litre of spirits each at most anyway so that's fine. Hoping for a sneezing and snot-free holiday!

Re hayfever, I think it depends what pollen you are allergic to. My son had a bad bout a few months ago and I'm afraid it's just started up again, presumably another type of pollen. So bring some antihistimine but it's readily available over the counter. We have found that it's a good idea to ask for the Turkish version of whatever your looking for. E.g. The Turkish version of Calpol is half the price.
