I know this question has been asked a hundred times before but to save searching here goes.

My son is coming over in May and needs a taxi from Larnaca to Karsiyaka and I was after some recommendations for this. It will only be one way and he doesn't need a hire car as we as we arrive a couple of days later and can take him back.

Many Thanks

Pretty expensive I would think. How about posting his arrival date and flight info and see if there is anyone else on the same flight that could share or give him a lift.

Hi Cliff, we used to go with an English driver but he is ill at the moment, I think that most taxi's will charge that amount though.

Last time we were there we hired a car at the airport.

The £50 sounds about right, but a heck of a lot of money.

Maybe someone could go and meet him and just charge petrol, but of course the cost of 25 euros insurance for a one off trip brings the price up. But you could do a bit of a shopping at the same time.

OR it is possible to get a bus from Larnaca to Nicosia, and then be met at the crossing,

OR it is possible to get a bus from Larnaca to Nicosia and then get a dolmus to Kyrenia and the bus to Karsiyaka.

Just ideas, depending on the age of the son and how much they like a cheap adventure.

I know where you are coming from MarieB but they get in at 05:30 after an overnight flight and just want to jump in a taxi, get to Karsiyaka and crash out for a couple of hours. Buses and Dolmus great but slow in comparison.

Quite understand MountainEdge. Probably no buses at that hour - they start later.

I often do a favour to friends and charge 20TL for petrol,(yes, LIRA) but have no insurance at the moment, and in any case I think if you are going to pay anyone it should be a regular taxi service. They get very miffed at individuals taking away their livelihood. I do it for friends for 'love'. There are places in Girne who specialise. I am sure that someone on this board knows who they are.

When I used to live in the south we all did airport runs for each other just for the petrol costs. Doesn't seem to happen over here. It seems a bit barmy when the taxi fare is half of what some people get a flight for!

But, appreciate your problem MountainEdge. Hope you solve it.
