Only 1500tl if your foreign, locals get another rate usually less than half that.

karakum, are you sure of that because my husband is TC and when we moved to our holiday house 2 years ago, they ask us 1500 tl - so we didn't want to get the meter for holiday time and have water tank coming when necessary -

in fact everything is ready, we need just the meter for the connection maybe it is a new price !!!! NEED TO CHECK

We bought a new water meter January 2009 in Catalkoy and yes it was 1500 tl and it is not just a price for expats, this is for locals as well. Our friend who is a TC got charged this and another TC friend went to make the original inquiry for us and all got quoted the same.

It is because we are now under the Girne Belediye for water and this is their fixed rate.

We just got Girne Belediye to replace our old, faulty water meter for a brand new one in January 2009.

They came and fitted it within a day of our reporting that the olie was 'kaput', and charged us 50 - yes, fifty Lira.

So, there ya go!

we moved into our house 4 years ago. The water meters we had to pay extra for and our solicitor said it would be aprox 30 pounds. Our builder who was fantastic throughout charged us nothing!!

when you first ask for a meter you pay 1500 tl ,after when you need to change it ,because faulty ,you just pay 50 tl - and this is for everybody - TC or not

I have always been lead to believe that the water meter price was always a lot lower than the electric. Only a few days ago i was again told this by my agent. The water meter should be no where near 1500tl.

I think the differences here is that if you require a new water meter and fitting of one to a new property then the cost is 1500tl if you come under Girne Belediye, as we now do in Catalkoy.

However, after reading the above, there seems to be a lower cost if you are just requiring a 'replacement' meter.

Or, it may the case that a new meter and fitting could be cheaper if you are not under Girne Belediye, but I cannot really comment on that as i don't know.

The only thing I do know is what I mentioned in msg 6 to be correct and that it doesn't matter if you are a TC or not, this is now the price.

We live in Alsancak - just looked up our bill for meter in feb 2008 It was 460lira plus another 20lira for 'binding' or something. There were some plastic pipes out on the road put in by neighbours and some through the garden put in by the contractor and they just cut and bi passed and connected the meter - hey presto - water!! So its seems extortionate in Girne.

My apartment is in Karaoglanoglu and i was going to get connected soon but if i come under Girne then i think i will have to save some more before going ahead. Looks like i have been mislead again on the cost of things in North Cyprus.
