I think you are hoping a bit with 3%. I should have commuted half. When I finally get around to collecting it I doubt it will be worth driving to the bank to cash it. I hope it is actually useful to those of you who are recieving it now !!

0%, same as Teacher's pensions. The RPI was -1.4% but as pensions cannot be cut they "awarded" nothing extra. Teachers received a 5% increase last April so perhaps we shouldn't grumble compared to what those working received.

Well Mr Brown said he would give special consideration to Armed Forces in the Autumn Pre Budget, same time said that all Disability Pensions would rise by 2.5% and State Pension by 1.5%. Up to today there has been no announcement on results of Armed Forces Pay Review Boards Award yet! As for a pension increase I think 2.5% is on cards for those under 55 , those over rise in line with the Retail Price Index. I have friends who left as Warrant Officers/SNCOs at 40 and took maximum commutation and have hit 55 and now are in a position now that their increased enhanced pension has started that they no longer need to work. Haha roll on when I am 55!!

Andy, Does the R.C.T. stand for Recon and combat trainer because with rest of the details on your profile, it can't mean rickshaws, cabs and taxis surely?

RAPC the people everyone really wanted to hate because they controlled the money but could never be nasty to them because ,,,,,, they controlled the money. RAPC guy got me stuck in for an extra year because he got my dates wrong and said I wasn't legible for 1st stage of redundancy, applied for second astage and was asked why I hadn't taken the first one as I had qualified, would have strangled the first pay corp guy at that point then found out I was about 30% better of for waiting till the second, would have kissed him then.

Sorry to hear that , Must confess though why should a Pay Corps bloke be dealing with your Record of Service as thats the Orderly Rooms Job. On redundancy we worked out the financial entitlement only, but that redundancy was a lottery anyway as applied in 2 of them and was tutrned down, so stayed for 22 years and then had Bar in Spain and was asked back in so did a further 7 years in JHQ and had a great time at Hereford (when I was there) and its through contacts there that I am enjoying my timeworking here in Baghdad!

As I said, in the end I was happy so no harm done, I think if I had really wanted to go when it was first stage I would have just signed off anyway as by then I was on open engagement. That's quite a career path and you are a better man than me for Baghdad, saw and heard enough crap the first time around. Spent 9 years working middle east now but never went back there even when the cash offer was extremely good. One thing to be there with 4" of chubem around you and an SLR/SA80, completely different with a laptop and an 8" adjustable spanner. Keep safe, keep happy and most of all keep alive !!
