Yesterday a local was stopped by the Police in Lapta. When they found all his paperwork in order they gave him a fine of 325tl for not wearing a Helmet. Just warning you all to make sure you are wearing your Helmets and to warn anybody you know who does not to get one quick.

I think its a great shame that people would decide to wear a helmet to avoid a fine rather than to avoid the contents of there head being splattered all over the road when they are in an accident. AN I think its very funny that all the turks with helmets think that its an item of protective equipment designed to save one of their elbows.

Asked about the helmet law here some years ago and found it very strange - it was dependent upon the cc of the bike and if you were inside Girne or not. I seem to remember that if it was above 100cc you needed a helmet inside Girne but not outside. As a lifetime biker I consider the use of a brain bucket to be essential - no matter what speed, cc or type of bike you use - the people who zip around on quads think they are safe as they don't need one by law. Every seen a quad go over backwards? Nasty!!!

I Second that Waddo apparently in Famagusta the law is red hot on bikers wearing helmets but my understanding is that anything over 50cc requires the rider to wear a helmet . However saw a police comander or at least an officer with a lot of scrambled egg on his uniform riding pillion on the back of a motorcycle cop down the girne lefkosa daul carriageway, I did'nt think the base ball cap he was wearing would of given him much protection

You are absolutely right about the skull protector but I always that it was humourous the amount of quad riders who learned the hard way not to take your foot off the footplates and then put it on the ground like you were trying to lean a bike in and throw the back wheel out. Many, many broken ankles on that little doozzy. Paul

Up-date if its under 100cc the fine is 95tl and if its over 100cc the fine is 315tl. But as you say a Helmet no matter the cost here is a far better thing than loosing your life or brain damage. Its surprising what an extra 25cc can cost.

I have been riding bikes for many years - hence the nick blackbird. Anyone who rides on two wheels without head protection is mad. Brains scattered all over the road has already been said....but that is exactly what happens when a head hits the tarmac.
