Please visit http://www.cornwalltelevision.co.uk/dolphins.html and vote on whether this practice of mass slaughter should continue. Denmark in the EU gets away with it every year just for the practice of young manhood.

Please the note the pictures are quite upsetting

It depends if you are a vegetarian or not. This practice is from the Faroe Islands and has been carried out for many many years. The pilot whale meat and by-products (no, not dolphins) is distributed among the islanders for supplies over the winter months. It has nothing to do with sport, (although may well be seen as cruel) and certainly nothing to do with a 'rite of passage' or 'manhood'

If you believe the BBC you can check out the report of someone who went there rather than an emotive and one-sided website.

I accept as a meat-eater that animals are slaughtered for me to eat and I can live with that. I am prepared to overlook the 'distasteful' for something tasty like a bacon sandwich or roast lamb. If it came to it I would be happy to kill animals myself to feed my family. If couldn't say that I'd turn vegetarian rather than be a hypocrite. I try not to pick up rocks when looking out of my glass h

That's a broad statement Lilli, why is line-caught tuna any worse than any other line-caught fish? You serve fish in Guido's correct? Guido boils live lobsters? Let's have a little perspective is what I'm saying not a knee-jerk Daily Mail reaction. Do you disagree with abbatoirs?

You are an animal lover I know but unless you and others who are outraged are vegetarians then you have to condone animals having bolts shot into their heads in order for you to eat veal, beef, pork lamb?

I admire vegetarians, I just ain't one of them. And I don't know enough about the Faroe islanders way of life to tick a Yes/No box from my comfortable armchair.

More recently, we have polluted our seas so much that the pilot whale meat is considered toxic due to high levels of mercury.

Poisoning of our oceans is an issue I *can* get angry about. Time for lunch.

I also eat meat but hopefully animals that are slaughtered humanely, not to have hooks driven into them and dragged ashore and butchered while still alive, as these dophins and whales are.
