Hi,

I read this on another thread yesterday that went a little off topic which is why I'm starting a new topic.

Something about foreigners not being entitled to take a pension, even if they've paid in to the fund. Someone explained that it was to do with the Provident Fund - that "they stopped paying this for foreigners in January 2009. However that is only if you got a work permit via getting a pre-permit after Jan 09, if you already had one and just extended it then this does not apply to you and your provident fund should still be paid."

I don't understand all of this. So, my questions:

1. What is a pre-permit?

2. Do we still have to pay for social insurance and what does that entitle you to?

3. What's the rate of social insurance - I've heard the % increases with your age?

4. What's the difference between the Provident Fund and Social Insurance?

5. What else do we have to pay in to from our wages?

As ever, all advice gratefully received.

can tell you more when I ask hubby when he gets home - he is mainland turk and these 'new' rules apply to him. He did explain them to me - but I have forgotten. I had my work permit before Jan 09 and even though I have renewed it twice the pre-Jan 09 rules apply to me. So I should get all paid into it when I leave the island or retire.

You can go into the new works building in Girne (by the hospital) - go up to the 1st floor and they can tell you how much is in you 'box'. It will depend on how much your enployers pay in for you - apparently many don't pay anything and some just pay the minimum wage contributions - this we were told by an employee there.

Your pink/yellow if got kids card entiltles you to free health care. So far I've had dental treatment, small emergency operation and given birth via C-section. It needs to be renewed every 6 - 12 months.

Other than that - no idea

Wrong place to ask these questions as it would be very hard to find someone on the forum to give accurate answers.

You'd need to speak to your accauntant.Well,I'd think so anyway.

Hi Treesy,

someone the other day told me that when they got their work permit, they get a stamp in your passport, a yellow card and 2 other coloured cards. I've got a current work permit but i only ever got the stamp and the yellow card.

Am i supposed to have more than one card?

Also do you know what the yellow card is for please, as no one at my company even knows its for.

Can you get Dental treatment free then? Am i wasting my money paying 280TL per filling? lol

Thanks

Kelly,

had permit for 3 yrs now and has always been just a stamp in my passport and a pink or yellow card. the card is for health treatment - at the government hospital or local clinics.

Yes you can get free dental treatment - there is a dentist at lapta health clinic some mornings - you have to get there early though 8am - and wait your turn. Dont expect anything fancy though! If you pay for a filling there i think it said about 30 tl. They have other clinics too but I only know this one - my baby gets some of his injections free there too. Some we have to pay for though.

hope that helps,

T

For new foreign employees (includes mainland Turkish) no provident fund payments are paid by the employee, but they are still paid by the employer. For existing foreign workers provident fund payments are also paid by the employee. I believe that this will continue when the work permits are renewed, but don't know what happens if you change jobs.

I don't know what the %'s are, but for someone on minimum wage 1237TL per month, the amounts are

Employee: tax 0

sosyal sigorta 99TL

provident fund -existing employee 62TL - new employee 0

Employer sosyal sigota 130TL

provident fund 62TL

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

But now I'm confused. My work permit is an A4 letter with stamps and an official signature on it. I didn't have anything stamped in my passport, though the guy at the labour office did take it to look at it! And, I wasn't given any cards. Has the system changed or do I need to go and ask for a card too?

Thanks.
