From the BBC website today - Coffins of 2 early GC Archbishops (l9th and early 20th Centuries) were stolen from a Nicosia cemetery. A third had also been tampered with. These latest macabre thefts were discovered after Police responded to an early morning fire at a church.



The remains of 5 GC prisoners of war have now been identified, 35 years after being killed and their bodies thrown down a well. They had surrendered to Turkish forces and their photos at the time were on file. l4 other bodies recovered were also recovered from the same well in N.Cyprus. The identities of the 5 young men were confirmed after DNA testing and made public by the UN-sponsored Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (COMPC). Since exhumations began 3 years ago the remains of l63 people - 119 GC and 44 TC - have been returned to their families. Officials with COMPC " hope the furore over those 5 POWs does not damage peace talks aimed at reunifying the divided island. "
