Have our flights booked but as of yet havent booked accomodation, keep looking and confused do we want to be in the heart of it, or out a bit. Having been to Turkey many times we like personal touch, toying with the Hideaway, cant seem to find much about lapta are there bars/ restaurants within walking distance also keep going back to Pia Bella, and Almond, any suggestions most welcome. thanks Ron

The Hideaway is beautiful, very upmarket but a little out of the way. Pia Bella is very popular but my choice would have to be Almond, within walking distance of bars and restaurants but in a quiet peaceful spot. Family run by lovely people.

Almond Holiday village in Alsancak is a lovely family run complex. I would definately asy they are worth a look and they are in Alsancak on the main road (bus route) and also many bars and restaurants close by.

Hi Ron, We have loads of bars and restaurants here in Lapta and the surrounding areas. If you are looking for somewhere that is friendly Cypriot and not too expensive try the Lapida Hotel, it is about 4 years old and ran by Fethi and his mum Mary who incidentally is a wonderful cook.. http://www.lapidahotel.com or phone 0090 533 862 1500 Chris

Hi Ron I stayed for a couple of months in Riverside Holiday Village Alsancak before we got our present house. Good base with free transport into town, car hire available, selection of accommodation and costs, restaurant on site, three pools, internet hotspot, etc. There are plenty restaurants within walking distance and five mins walk to the main road for a dolmus.

It all depends on what you want to do in North Cyprus, and whether you are planning on hiring a car. My own preference is to be central Kyrenia (Girne) and so I stay at Pia Bella. Lovely gardens, stylish rooms (in new block above restaurant) lovely staff (especially 'Sarah' who as customer relations puts any other hotel I've stayed in to shame) and the bonus is that being close to the centre getting to Lefkosa (Nicosia) and other areas is very easy by dolmus. For a trouble free break go half board as the food is good, if a little repetitive for stays of more than 2 weeks. Have stayed 2 months at a time and enjoyed every moment.

Should have said, if you want to book their website is: http://www.piabella.com/ Ask for the free transport from airport (Ercan)

Almond is the best of the ones you mentioned but is very popular because of its standards and service. So if you haven't already booked I doubt whether they will be able to fit you in as they're always busy. Good luck.

Everytime I see the folks on the Riverside bus on-way to town they always look less happier than the girls in the 4play bus going for their weekly checks at the Hospital.?

If you want the personal touch it has to be the Hideaway, before we bought here we always stayed there and the service is second to none. If you want a room with a sea view ask for room number 19, best in the house !! Cooper

I endorse Cooper's comments on the Hideaway. Its smaller than the others (a boutique hotel) and tends to be an adults-only hotel. Service, friendliness, all-round efficiency and spectacular views from rooms and dining terrace (summer months). Yes, its a little way up the hill and away from the main road where the local buses ply their trade (known as dolmus) but the Hideaway can get good rates for you on a hire car or order a taxi. Distance from Kyrenia centre is approx.3 miles. Have stayed at H'way more than once and can highly recommend it for that special attention and sense of 'intimacy'. Pity the weather wont have warmed up the water enough for you to enjoy the lovely outdoor pool though! There aren't any bars or clubs where the hotel is located but that's what makes it an ideal spot for relaxation. Somehow though I think you want lots of fun and games on your doorstep so perhaps the Pia Bella would be more suitable ? Whatever you go for, have a great holiday!

Pia Bella excellent. Dolmus and Taxi outside the door, walk into Girne 20 minutes, resonable prices at the bar and food very good, and problems are put right if you tell Sara who asks every morning at breakfast if you are OK. plenty of choice for breakfast. Lovely gardens and 2 pools.

A choice of 2 bars inside and 1 out at the Pia Bella with background music, we don't tend to go out at night to eat because the food is very good and prices at the bar are really good, you can eat outside in Summer and entertainment there at weekend. Snacks available at lunchtime but some good little cafes near to and a really good sandwich bar just up the road called Cassies (I think) apposite Lemar supermarket. The staff are very friendly having been there for years, rooms are comfortable and clean you wouldn't go wrong staying there. Reasonable rates for car hire too.

If you are staying for 2 weeks why not stay in town for a week and then somewhere a bit quieter for the second, or vice versa? You get the best of both worlds then and not too much travelling at night.

We have been to the Ship on two occasions whilst waiting for our apartment to be finalised, excellent rates and the staff look after you at all times. Food is good and the staff in the restaurant are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. They do car hire excellent rates and the hotel is central for the centre of KYRENIA and also they have an inside pool as well as a large outside pool. TONY.

Blimey Ron. noticed you've been posting on this subject since end of January. Is it a matter of 'you used to be indecisive but now you're not too sure'? LOL Good luck with your search, but wherever you stay I wish you a very pleasant holiday. greenman
