Hi All, Can anyone please advise where we can buy a couple of decent Palm Trees for the garden. We are based in Esentepe so somewhere local would be useful. We are also interested in a couple of bourgainvillea and a couple of Jasmine plants. Finally a lemon tree. I would like to buy on a purchase, deliver and plant basis. What would we expect to pay for Palm Trees say 1.5mtr. high. Thankyou, wyn

Hi Wyn, I got my pink bourgainvillea from Girne market which opens every Wednesday near the bus station. There is also a good garden centre on the main road just after Algadi Beach on the way to Esentepe. It is on the right hand side and sells plants as well as loads of nice pots. You can't miss it because it is on the road side and displays all its pots along the verge. The owner is always willing to haggle particularly if you buy more than one item. I also recommend a bottle Bush plant as they look absolutely fantastic in spring. I'm quite a keen gardener hence email name so if you want any help or advice please don't hesitate to contact me. Out there shortly so I'll get you some prices/recommendations.

Hi Wynyardman, How is the weather in the northeast today? For all your plants and putting them in, you cannot do better than Gabriels in Esentepe Village. He speaks perfect english and turns up when he says he will. At this time of year he will be busy, so it is best to go see him after 5.30pm. He lives in the house opposite the garden centre. Good luck. The butlers wife

bourgainvillea and palm trees grow even if you dont water them hardy things, thats about all that does grow in the Middle East, Funnily enough there are no water shortages over here and it is very cheap.

Hi Wyn In case you don't know where Gabriel's place is in Esentepe go to the far end of the Village main road, past Kim Supermarket, just after the bend (there is a white house with blue shutters on the right hand side of the road) you will see the garden centre its on the right hand side. Mustafa's truck is normally parked outside the house opposite. As the summer goes on I'd say leave it until later in the evening before trying to see him. Karen

Hot Hornet, I cannot believe your posting. Plant nothing? I had specifically chosen plants which survive in semi desert conditions, without the need for artificial irrigation............For heavens sake! Your proposed retirement village promises to be a pretty bleak existense if you follow your own advice. wyn

I also though bourgainvillea would grow without water as I have seen it flourishing in Gulf countries which is about as hot as it gets. However, I was advised by one garden centre there that if you plant in pots they are unlikely to live without watering, so mine died as I don't have a garden & won't bother again. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

Hot Hornet, Thata a bit of a harsh statement, dont plant anything at all!!! As said before get plants that are suitable to the location, not all plants ie bourgainvillea and many others dont need water for months and can stand the heat. Plants and trees are also required for the planets well being (Dont need to go into science now!) Just plant sensibly
