My last words about the Kyrenia Walks I have organised in the past months... It all started with my hope to form 'one' small group of people who might be interested to learn more about the old town of Kyrenia. And it ends with the fifteenth walk (plus some more for private groups) and a total of more than 300 residents and tourists of many nationalities! I wish to thank all the participants - I hope you will tell others what you may have learned about Kyrenia. The more interest in and promotion of Kyrenia the better!

Well, if there still are questions about (medieval) Kyrenia: ask them here if they seem interesting for others also or mail me at mcf.trnc@gmail.com .

Hope to see you all again!

Would just like to say a big Thank you Hans, we really enjoyed and learned a lot about Kyrenia from the information on your walk, we talked about it for days and re-traced our steps on another day, hope you are doing your 10th walk of Famagusta when we come back in December.

Hans

I am sure you will have had positive feedback in regards to your walks around Girne.

As you know, my husband and I joined you on one and we were fasinated by your knowledge and we have viewed Girne in a new light now that we are more aware of it's history.

I would highly recommend any resident/tourist to take up your offer of a tour...it really is very informative.

You will be pleased to know that my husband absorbed what he had learnt from you.

We went to meet one of my former work collegues yesterday afternoon in Girne.

It is his first visit with his wife to Northern Cyprus and they are already talking about returning.

We took them for a walk around the harbour before stopping for a drink and my husband acted as a tour guide.

He pointed out the buildings that were the old warehouses and informed them that the pathway where the restaurant seating is used to be where the ships were moored.

He even remembered to point out the very old street lamp that you showed us.

Hans, what about the walk you promised Rob (RobnJo) and myself in June - does this still stand?

Bill, please remove my post that just appeared again! I have a small browser problem causing double postings. Sorry and thank you (I'll answer your question later...).

I cannot understand why the TRNC Tourist Board have not picked up on Hans' walks and put him on the pay role as he seems to have stimulated plenty of interest in promoting tourism for North Cyprus in its cultural history.

Just goes to show how short sighted the Government Departments really are! Lets have another water fountain roundabout!!!

=> Richard, the TRNC law says I'm too old to do this... And rules are rules in TRNC, you know that... I heard much younger people than me 'complain' that I outran them during the Kyrenia Walks (and my 'assistant', my wife Trix, then slowed me down...). Anyway, I have a good relation with the TRNC Tour Guides Association and was honoured when they asked me to do lectures on medieval Cyprus for them. I'm busy enough!

Hi Hans,

You may remember my wife and I managed to get one of your talks in last month, and I sent you a recent email asking if it was possible to get some sort of copies of the subjects of your walks/talks (for a fee of course).

You must be busy, because you haven't replied yet...

Are you too busy to contemplate doing a book?

RE: msg 9, Rottolover: Sorry, I remember I saw your email but I failed to answer. At the moment I'm rewriting some of my lectures (adding text, pictures and new maps) and then I upload them to my web site http://www.cyprusdownload.nl (where you can already find some updated lectures to download).

Book: I'm working on it - but the first one will be for 12+ year olds. It will be translated from Dutch into Turkish and I intend to offer every school child in TRNC a copy when they leave the basic school ("primary" in English?). Most children have a very limited knowledge of the treasures in their country and maybe I can help them appreciate what they've got here. We have to start somewhere, right? Unfortunately the world economy is not on my side - it not easy to find a sponsor(s). But I don't give up that easy!

=> A promise is a promise, Bill. Send me an email as soon as you (and RobnJo) know the date of your arrival in TRNC and we'll work it out.
