If one doesn't twist Cyprus' history (like some loudmouthed people on GC boards like to do) it's all rather easy to follow from Palaeolitic, Bronze and Late Bronze ages (etc), say between 8500 to 1600 BC. The first inhabitants of Cyprus came from what we now call Syria and from what we now call Turkey (Anatolia - however they were not Byzantines, Seljuk or Ottoman Turks). It's ridiculous to claim that the first inhabitants were people from the Aegean islands or from what we now call mainland Greece. Cyprus was visible from "Turkey" and "Syria", where populations in the coastal areas were farming and they or even people before them have most probably sent hunting parties to Cyprus. There's a cave in Cyprus where the 'first man in Cyprus' was found (Akrotiri, circa 8500 BC) - and he was definitely not Greek...

The inhabitants of the Aegean islands were seafaring (local, in very small boats), but had no reason to colonize the fertile but uninhabited island of Cyprus. Nor had they merchant connections with villages on Cyprus' opposite coasts - don't forget we're talking about some 10.000 years ago.

Hellfire Hans! - you mean mankind didn't evolve on the island? - and that Greek isn't the islands aboriginal language? Have the GC's been misinforming us all these years? ;o)
