Has anyone actually been there?

"I remember yousef saying they grew the best black eyed beans on the island and conversing freely in both Turkish and Greek. A definite hark back to the way it was when he grew up there in the late 1930's" - Koroglu83

"Yousef showed me his old house, a two bedroom place, pock marked by small arms fire and suspended in time by spending decades uninhabited and unvisited"- Koroglu83

"In Cyprus war of 1974, this village was secured so as to place it within a contiguous Turkish Cypriot zone, which later became in 1975, the Turkish Federated State of North Cyprus, then in 1983, the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). It is accessible only by one road from the rest of the de facto TRNC. The United Nations Buffer Zone separates the salient from the area controlled by the Republic of Cyprus"

Am i sensing that very few people have been here? It is well worth a trip. A real frontier village.... little bit of history just waiting to be visited.

I visited once in 2005. It is a real eye-opener when you compare it to the villages on the Girne side.

Surprisingly the village has its own website: http://www.lurucina.org/

Hi my dad comes from there. Ive been there the last 2 years to see the old village and check out my roots. Lovely old place bit like a ghost town now. Not that easy for tourists to visit though due to having to go through the army base. When i went there 2 years ago it was the first time, i remembered a lot of stories my dad told me, even though never been b4 felt very comfortable there and a connection with the place. Met the imam and he allowed my son and i to climb up the stairs in the minarett to the top. Best view in the village, lots of steps though lol. Love it will be back soon

Its great reading these stories by some of you Cypriots about times gone by (especially the happier times) I'd ove to visit some of these old places myself, just to sit and contemplate

Keep the stories coming

Has anyone got the answer to Diogenes' question about the spray painted numbers on buildings?
