New series of history quizzes (more diffcult than the former series...).

Rules as usual (I make them on the fly if necessary...).

First and only prize: a CD with medieval music from Cyprus ("The Island of St Hilarion").

The question: what is this and where do you find it?

Either the outflow from the medieval latrine or an overflow from a basement cistern at Kantara Castle.

Darrener. I'm not spoiling it by telling you whether you are wrong or right - it wouldn't be fair to Hans. )

RE msg 8, darrener2: (...) Either the outflow from the medieval latrine or an overflow from a basement cistern at Kantara Castle. (...)

=> 1/2 point for Darrener2! The location is Kantara castle: http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/Kantara_Castle_72_90.jpg

Note: NO replies with "either... or...", please! Clears answers!

Re: Msg.12,

It's a mouth of the conduit which drained the Medieval latrine of the castle.

Well, I think it's a good idea to honour our most knowledgeable Moderator (Note the capital M!). Please, Bill, I step back - you know my modesty! - tell the participants the right answer of this Quiz! You have time enough (8 pm today)...

Well, Darrener2 was very close but her answer was not quite correct - so there is no winner in this Quiz. Let's have a closer look:

http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/S5001036.JPG

Now, what is the right answer? Pictured is part of the waterworks in Kantara castle. After many centuries some pipes are missing of course, but through the pipe still visible (picture above) water from the (walled) roofs (nrs 19-20-21 on the plan of Kantara castle, below) would be dumped in this cistern (nr. 22 on the plan of Kantara castle, below):

Plan of Kantara Castle: http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/Kantara_plan.jpg

P.S. Have a very close look at this Official Plan (as issued by the TRNC government and given to you when you enter the castle as a visitor), because it will be part of my next Quiz-ab...
