Called in there at lunchtime last December my husband was ill for the rest of the day, he had Meat & Potato pie which had been microwaved to warm it up could only think of it being that because he hadn't had anything else except cereal at breakfast. There was a party of 8 brits in there who appeared to be regulars, they were being chatted to, we were on our own no conversation with us at all just served with the food and that was that. Very disappointed after reading on here how good it was supposed to be.

I went in there a few weeks ago. Was not expecting the lunch time deal, but it was a nice surprise. My friend and i took advantage of the 2 for 15tl deal, and i have to say it was absolutely lovely!! We were quite early and it was empty, but by the time we left it was getting super busy!

Would definitely go again as and when i am out that way. Lunch anyone??

They do nice breakfasts too and it's a very pleasant and peaceful way to start the day overlooking the sea and it's my evening 'local' for all 'live' football. The bar itself may be 'basic' but the cafe next door is well appointed. Nice to see some support here for Mike & Trish.

Lovely place, lovely setting, lovely couple. Couldn't understand the complaints so looked at the profiles of the complainants. One lives "between" Warrington and St Helens, a real haute cuisine area of a place famous for a dish named "scouse" a top seller at Sam 'n Ellas greasy spoon. No wonder the poor old bugger took ill after being fed owt wholesome. The other from another place famous for great cooking, LLanelli. I was unfortunate enough to be sent there to show the locals the principle of screws. I thought I'd try the local dish I'd heard so much about, Welsh Rabbit. Obviously they had none and served up cheese on toast, hoping I wouldn't notice.

If anyone goes to Back in Time this week and don't think the meal was worth it then I'll refund their 15tl.

I have no financial connection at all to Back in Time but will be in there between 4-30 pm and 7-00pm on Saturday, should anyone want a refund.

Tony

ps and the 3tl Carlsberg is great.

minertor. I live in Cheshire to be exact, a small village, we don't eat greasy spoon food, never visit Liverpool and don't eat scouse. We prefer well cooked fresh food not microwaved pies which are described as fresh cooked, he's not a poor old bugger thank you ignorant pig. We don't eat fatty bangers with mash either, we went there after reading the reports on here but when " my poor old bugger"took ill didn't go back again. You Yorkshire g.. not enough words to describe you.

I really cannot understand your problem! I drink the local tap water which puts my immune system into over drive for the first couple of days, then I'm okay. If you think you had a dodgy meal and didn't know at the time of eating your taste buds must be shot through! I've drunk at this place but not eaten (single chap with no friends to entertain) but at 15TL for two in a sublime setting with simple tucker which no cook could go wrong with, I think you're bang out of order!

Up to the main road, turn right towards Lapta, turn right opposite Haci Ali new car showroom,(signposted Kasgar Hotel) follow the road down to the sea, turn right and Back in Time is along there on the right.

Msg 29. We had been in NC for three weeks, no tap water drank, my husband had a meat and potato pie which was microwaved in my opinion not heated through and it made him ill so the cook did get it wrong, I am only saying what happened, can't argue with the setting and the price already said we were disappointed and everyone has a right to a say and tell the truth of their experience. Why the bang out of order!

Msg 34

A meat & potato pie! If cooked to order for pastry it would take 30 minutes to bake, the filling having already been cooked off, cooled then wrapped in the pastry, if however, the pie was pre-cooked with pastry a few minutes in a micro-wave oven should suffice. I cannot see how any food poisoning could get into that dish unless toilet hygiene wasn't adhered too!

The first insult, made without a trace of humour.

"Hilltop. Another grumpy ignorant pig, go fall down your hill on all fours"

Poms should learn and cultivate the Kiwi method of settling a disagreement like this:

Just say: 'As far as I'm concerned, you can go and stick your dog's nose up my dog's @rse!'

That way, neither one has lost the argument and neither been personally insulted - except your dumb dogs!

Heck, we can do without another sixty eight of those!

To get back on thread: must try one (or a coupla three!) of those meat pies @ 'Back In Time' to cheer me up, next time I disconsolately slouch out of 'Astro' - due to their abysmal lack of choice and stock!

msg 35; make your mind up Hattikins, "no Marie, you were not out of order..........uncalled for personal remarks being made.

who said, "ignorant pig", "Yorkshire g.." "another grumpy pig, go down the hill on all fours", "ok fool"

Maybe you should use your eyes before employing your finger.

Woodspeckie, must have looked at wrong profile, unless you updated: location, between Warrington and St Helens. by the way, from an ignorant Yorkshire pig, there's only one "s" in disappointed, the correct term is "egg and chips" hope your toyboy is over his illness, don't forget to put your eating teeth in before you tackle the steak.

Wishing you well and hope you get over your errm you know.

msg 47. You only got what you asked for, I wouldn't usually respond to people like you it was your ignorance that annoyed me. I have all my own teeth so really enjoyed my steak and I don't have a toy boy he is the same age as me. You just can't give up on the insults can you?

Re-read my original reply, Woodspeckie, don't see any insult aimed at you, if you are not from "between Warrington and St Helens". Didn't name anyone.

You must see that from almost all the other replies that nobody agrees with you re. Back in Time. Your post was uncalled for and malicious, which just about sums you up.

Have a nice day, in your pretty Cheshire village, nowhere near Warrington, nor St Helens.

The thread being, 'Back in Time' Restaurant/Bar/Cafe is situated in a great, quiet, sea facing situation which is great value for drinks and snacks including international sport TV and table top games facilities. Not everyone's cup of tea however, sitting outside avoids all boisterous bar noise.

That's message 26 from Woodspeckie, note the "I am having rib eye steak...."

Understand her insulting tone now, makes a meal like that for herself in midweek, what did Mr Woodspeckie get. Easy to see why she'd fly him 2,000 miles, find an idyllic place on the Med and feed the old boy a warmed up pie. Had you already eaten elswhere, Savoy maybe?

the first pints on me, unless I know yer, then you'll most likely ignore me anyway, apart from Brinsley, birds of a feather etc.

Seriously though, Mike and Trish are doing something I wouldn't have on my mind. Trying to make a go of a business that is being flogged to death here. Back in Time is a rather unique place. You don't pass it on the way to anywhere else, nor on your way back. If you go to Back in Time it's because, well, that's where you're going. Apart from this computer it's the closest venue to see all the football results, as they happen. The setting is perfect, the Carlsberg, at 3tl is great. It's a sorta hub for darts and pool leagues. It's a pity it takes 10 minutes to walk there and 40 mins back (3tl a pint).

If I've offended you Woodspeckie, I really couldn't give a flying fxxk, but I will pay for your next meal if you ever return to this place I call home, but not a pie, eh.

as my late mam used to say, if you can't say anything good, keep your gob shut.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they also offer free Internet connection on their computer housed in the bar.

Well they don't actually offer it for free, Richard, they just don't seem to charge for it's use, although the sign says you should pay.

Maybe it's a discretionary free service depending on the customer consuming copious quantities of alcoholic beverages and meat pies!

Bet you post again!!

I have no wish to see anyone hounded from a forum, but if you cant take it, don't start it. You called me some unpleasant names and I responded with humour, if you had shown any humility or humour this could have been a good thread.

Having said all of that, I think some have carried on the attack well after the quarry was dead.

msg 71, hilltop, bet you a pint "it" doesn't. It's always the same with these "Billy no Mates", they think they can say what they like, hiding behind a cloak of anonyminity, but don't realise that their "targets" have friends.

A concept they obviously don't understand.

Just been to Back In Time this lunchtime, friendly atmosphere, & good value food. Can't see what all the fuss was about. From another Yorkshireman...

If you travel all the way to TRNC for a meat and potato pie you would be more at home oin Benidorm or Torremolinos. Hasta la Vista baby.

minertor - message 80.

Did you mean the old chap in "One Foot in the Grave"? Because that's who the photograph depicts?

By the way "Egg and Chips" as opposed to "Chips and Egg" is, surely, a regional 'thing'? We, in the South, call it "Egg and Chips" but have you never seen the film "Shirley Valentine"?

Jeannie, it's not Albert Tatlock then. wasn't Shirley Valentine a singer in the 50's? used to be a favourite of me mums, as was Albert Tatlock.

If you call it egg and chips in the South, and we call it egg 'n chips in the Norf, not sure what's regional about it, unless of course you're from "a pretty little village in Cheshire" somewhere "between Warrington and St Helens"

I think its where the chess club plays on a Tuesday, cookery course every Wednesday and does 3 course meals for a smashing 20tl every evening in the week.

Oh, excellent sandwich's and fresh pasta's all day of course.

No, it's not Guidos where Dutch has his chess club, it's Back in Time which was featured in http://www.northcyprusfreepress.com/2009/10/03/50tl-meal-drink-for-2-%e2%80%93-back-in-time-cafe-bar-girne/

I suggest you book a table as it is rather busy now after all this well earned publicity. It isn't worth

cooking as it is such good value for money. Also Mike cracked me up with his 'caberet'.

If they've run out of pie and mash, I can also recommend the sausage, mash, peas and onion gravy.

can't believe it, a posting about eating out that actually got 88 replies before the Guido's appreciation society tried the usual hijack. Must admit, Guido's is good but Back in Time is different.
